i miss this site:
absolutely true on all points.
We've gone the Ron Francis, Lindros, Berard, Leetch, etc route. Before the cap came into effect, the Leafs did everything to try and buy a Cup.
Please remember this.
When Burke arrived our team was:
Top line:
Ponikarovsky - Stajan - Antropov
Our top D were:
Kaberle - Kubina
Our Goalies were:
Toskala
Cujo (the second time when he was terrible)
And our top prospects were:
Pogge
John Mitchell
Robbie Earl
Tlusty
Since his arrival
Top line:
Kessel - ? - Lupul
Even adding Bozak in there, all three players are better than Stajan, Antropov and Pony. by LEAPS AND BOUNDS!
Our D:
Phaneuf, Liles, Gardiner
I'll take all of them over Kaberle and Kubina
Our Goalies
Reimer - young, but a hell of a lot better than when we had Toskala
Prospects:
Scrivens
Kadri
Frattin
Colborne
Blacker
Percy
McKegg
Ross
DesChamps
It needs to be said that, Burke is doing a great job. You can't walk onto a team that literally has NOTHING, and expect to be a playoff team in 5 years. Unfortunately, Burke misread what he had in Toronto before he arrived. What we do know is that our D is stacked really deep, we have 5 solid Goalie prospects in Reimer, Scrivens, Rynnas, Owuya, and Sparks, and now he just has to shore up the forward prospects.
Despite everyone ragging on Burke about Kadri, Burke has a history of developing players. Look at Bobby Ryan, a number 2 overall pick.
He sent him back to junior for two years. Then he spent the end of a season in the AHL, and joined them for a playoff push. Spent a full year in the AHL, and then started the next year in the AHL, before being called up to play.
He was called up 3 years after being drafted, and his first full year as a starter was 4 years after his draft.
This is a guy that was drafted second to only Sidney Crosby. we have to stop wanting to trade our young guys and start DEVELOPING them. And yes people, junior and the AHL are for development |

i love the requisite list of prospects. always such a powerful argument. so, basically, your GM has drafted a bunch of players. |

Didn't Poni have a 61 campaing the year Burke arrived......is that leaves and bounds worse that Lupul's amazing career of 68 points? Just curious?
Oh yes and Stajan had 55 points that season as well which on the current team would have made him....oh yes the top scoring center again.
To echo what was said previously. Leaps and bounds. |
