I wanna see a Triple Crown, but I think that Bodemeister gets it done in Maryland.
I think it goes 7-5-9 for the finish
IOW, Bodemeister, Went The Day Well and I'll Have Another. It's going to be a day of favorites. - Jsaquella

*Possible dumb question alert*
Do they use the same jockeys? The dude that was riding Bodemeister put him in a no win situation out of the gate in the KD. |

Yeah, same jockey. Mike Smith, who is a hall of fame jockey, will be aboard Bodemeister for the Preakness.
He's a good jockey, won a ton of races. |

in all seriousness, though, super pleased with how jake's game rounded into form as the season went on. we knew he was a super passer and pretty good along the wall (though I'm not sure we all realized good he could be possession-wise), but he chipped in well on the pk when a couple guys went down and proved that he was a very capable two-way player. he was one of the hardest backchecking forwards all year, imo. hopefully he continues to steadily improve all-around. if he can find some consistency in his shooting game, i don't see why he can't be a regular 60+ point player. |

No, sorry - Voracek is twice the player that Gagner is because he's bigger and plays defense. Your "one-dimensional" comment is way off. Sounds like something Clouts would say, honestly. - TommyDeVito
I'm not trying to slag the guy. Gagner plays defense too for the record, but it's generally a moot point because both are mostly known for their offensive acumen. That's all I was saying.
Do you really think I meant, "Voracek is just like a key player on our team: Terrible"? They've got similar production, and similar potential. I was just saying that they'd fetch similar contracts. |

I used to work at Philadelphia Park, so I kind of got into racing a bit. Far from an expert, but I understand the sport fairly well. When I go to a casino, I always end up at the simulcast area, rather than bet with the one armed bandits or play cards |

drafted one after the other in 07, too iirc.
i'd say that gagner is probably more important to any success the oilers are to have next year than jake is for the flyers. flyers can live with a struggling jake. not sure the oil can. |

But do you win?
My problem is when it comes to betting on horses I'm not content picking the winner. I need the first 3 in order, sometimes 4. Swing for the fences I say! |

is anyone going to watch the Preakness? - phi1671
No. Because the Ranger/Devil game is going into quadruple OT. |

I'd prefer he get a one year contract again. There is something to be said about "playing for your next contract". Also, I think Voracek was greatly influenced by Jagr this year. If Jagr signs somewhere else, what impact will that have on Voracek's performance? |

The Oilers centre situation right now is not so hot. All pretty small, two overpaid, none are excellent two-way players. At least RNH looks like the real deal.
The Flyers have done a great job retooling, allowing Voracek, Schenn, JVR and Couturier to round out at their own pace. By the time their ready to take the reins Giroux will still be in his prime and Hartnell and Briere will still probably be playing. And you can always move voracek for a dman if need be. |

I'll Have Another is a closer and there's usually not enough room to close at the distance. He may lose this and win the Belmont. Or Union Rags comes back fresh (and with a different jock) and gets a better trip in the Belmont. |

Union Rags was the one I was thinking of that was in the bad spot, not Bodemeister. You're just a fountain of information... |

Bodemeister is raw, didn't run much as a 2-year-old, and refused to be rated. The jock did what you have to in that situation. If you fight him early, you take all his energy away. Even running away on the lead like that he almost managed a win. They hope he'll learn to rate. Not that necessary this week, but in the Belmont it would be, with a number of stalkers and closers able to go the distance. |

Union Rags got bunched up out of the gate. bad move and it set him back.
Bode ran a decent race but too fast in the beginging, spent too much energy but it was nice to see him hold on to place |

My birthday is first week in May, I've always been a big racing fan. Actually got to meet Seattle Slew at Three Chimneys before it was open to visitors. One of my work partners was able to get me a tour as if I were planning to breed a mare to one of their stallions. Fascinating day. And very nice old gentleman was Mr. Slew.
Also, met Matz (Rags's trainer) back in the early 80s when he was still riding jumpers for a living. He was such a handsome young fella. |

Rags took a step to the left out of the gate and was bumped badly, taking him off stride. Shame. Really fine horse. |

That's why I asked Jsaq if he had the same jockey, just got the horses mixed up. Union Rags didn't have a chance after turn 1. |

I do fairly well. I make several bets, depending on the race. For the Derby, I laid $20 on Bodemeister to win, and a few other bets. I did get a small one on I'll Have Another to show, which paid $110, so that pretty much evened me out for the day.
But I'll toss a bet on my winner choice, then make a smaller bet, like $5, on an exacta, then lay more small ones on longshots to finish in the money. Bigger races, I'll wager up to $100 on the various scenarios, but for the regular cards, I'll rarely drop more than $20 or so, and I'll make $2-$5 on various scenarios. |
