I think he'll be a 2nd pairing guy, maybe better if he continues his progression.
can play specialty teams too... he's a keeper, much like Gardiner is for the Leafs. - robin_steele264
He's no drew doughty, but a 21 year old kid putting up 30 points while solid defensively iss nothing to sneer at. The guy keeps saying there were 40 of them, but all of 1 were younger.

He's pretty good... just about the only Dman on the Leafs I like.
I can't believe people actually think Petry>Gardiner, Petry has 1 more point in about 30 more games, he has a worse career plus minus and is two years older! There is not a single GM in the right mind that would take Petry over Gardiner. Why would a GM want an older, less effective and has proven throughout his career to be worse than Gardiner at every stage of development? Illogical.

Both had pretty good seasons last year, Gardiner is the smoother skater for sure, but Petry is bigger and more physical.

Listen all I was saying is that based on LAST year Petry was the better dman. I think Gardiner will be very good. Everyone is trying to compare what we do not know yet.

So essentially what your saying is that since Gardiner has only played one year in the NHL we can't determine if he's better or not? That would be like Leaf fans saying that Kessel is better than Segiun because he had more goals and points last year. When we all know Segiun is much more valuable. Tey only way to compare these players is to look at all the stages of their development.

I take it reading comprehension isn't really your strong suit.

Last year was Petry's first full year.
Biggest difference between them is that Oiler fans arent proclaiming Petry as a future Norris winner etc...
Just nice to see him developing and progressing into a good NHL'er.

your missing his point.... who ever is on TO is a god - Killbot460
Have I said that. There is a long, long, long way between jeff petry and "a god". If you perceive someone saying better than petry is saying they're a god, then I suggest you might be the one with the issue.
I think your undervaluing the rookie scoring leader for defenseman, just a tad. - DepecheModer
and I think you guys are overrating one good season just a tad. Most of us in edmonton have a 'wait and see' approach on Petry's solid season. In TO, Gardiner is already an untouchable in pretty much any trade scenario. Fans of both times should try and realize that both players had solid seasons in large part because the rest of the blueline sucked ass.
Didn't you guys just go through all this jumping the gun stuff with "Optimus Reim" not too long ago?
