WOW I have to admit even though I knew what I was sayiing was complete bullshyte last night I couldn't help myself. It was so liberateing, so freeing to go over the top and Act like a complete idiot troll like a Leaf or Nuck troll. Isn't Gardiner playing for the Marlies right now? As PRV is playing for the Barons for now and Looking much like last year.
Who has more potential? PRV by more than a country mile my friend.
Who has more Value? A dime a dozen offensive Dman and yes there are many out there even though Edmonton doesn't have one other than Petry and Whitney.
But a better comparrisson would be Petry to Gardiner:
Stats alone tell a huge story as both spent time in the AHL and this was both of their rookie seasons.(A fact over shadowed on Petry because of RNH.)
Both played over 70 games and Gardiner had 5 more goals than Petry same amount of assists. Petry ended up a -7 on a Oiler defense that was well below average. Gardiner ended up -2 on a overrated exp defense. next year we will see who is the gem and we will still have an up and coming power forward being taught right by Todd Nelson.

Edit after last nights play-off game PRV has more value going 2p +3 and Gardiner went 0p -2 Oh My Holy Hell Gardiner is over rated can't even stop the Oak City Barons what the hell is he going to do in the NHL if he ever makes it?

Gardiner spent most of the year with the Leafs, he led rookie defenseman in points by a wide margin this year.

He's 21, how many defenseman play Gardiner's game at 21? Check your facts.

Is that a joke? I ready maybe 5 posts and could tell that every Leafs fan has never seen PRV in equipment and vic versa for Edmonton fans and Gardiner.

It's also real smart to compare a soph like PRV who cleary experienced growing pains this year after a solid year last year to a revelation like Gardiner who very well could have a year like PRV did this year, next season.

Gardiner had a great rookie season. Great. Fine. Dandy. Dudes a former first round pick. He's always had the potential to be a top 4 dman. He's already proven through this season that he's an NHL player.

How he follows up on this season is important. Gardiner is not better then Petry after having ONE good season, the same way Petry isn't better or worse because he's only had half a dominant season.

Petry was a project dman from the get go. Gardiner was much more polished and destined for stardom.

Both of them are on track in their development. Petry is has progressed steadily throughout his entire career thus far. Most defensemen take the usual route Petry has in terms of a timetable. Gardiner's is accelerated because he was ahead of Petry in development at the same age.

Doesn't mean one's going to better then the other, and their not comparable on such a small sample size, nor do any of you take into consideration the teams/situation each player is in.

And no, looking at GF/GA and plus-minus doesn't (frank)ing count. Stop sucking nhl.com and hockeydb's Richard for 5 seconds. Theres way more that needs to be looked at in depth then just a few simple stats, and at a LATER DATE when both have had a bigger sample size of play at this level.
