After the Carter deal, my favorite move was getting Talbot. Guy is a beast. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings -- Talbot, Injury Updates, Prospect Signings - bmeltzer
The Talbot signing was outstanding and the Flyers should be looking for one more guy like him -- as opposed to a Zach Parise, imo.
I understand that, if the Flyers were to sign Parise, they could trade some offensive depth for a defenseman. But at some point, you have to identify a core group of players and roll with it for a couple of seasons. How are you developing that chemistry is you keep adding and subtracting guys from your "core" every season?
The Flyers have some great pieces to build around. Add another Talbot-like player, add another defenseman, trade Bryzgalov and let's roll. |

as noted you need players like Talbot, it was a great signing. Most people just saw a Penguin coming to the Flyers.
don't know too much about the players that were signed but it's nice to keep the youth movement going.
Good update blog Bill... |

Jim Slater would be the perfect fit. Real good on draws and good on the pk. |

Slater did a great job for the Jets as their best PK and defensive center last season. I agree, would be a great 4th line center if his contract demands aren't out of whack. |

Don't know if he would accept a 4th line role, but hell yes to Slater. |

The only problem I have with Slater is his inability to remain healthy. He was "healthy" this year and played 78 games.. yet over the prior 3 seasons never cracked 62.
i would be more excited for a guy like Gregory Campbell |

It's a concern, but not enough to keep me from signing him. |

While you are right about tough and good on draws (and a bit of a good pker) thats about all he brings.. Id rather go after a more versatile player whose bread and butter is shutting down other forwards. |

On the day after Parise lit up the Rangers, maybe we can have an anti-intelligence respid.
Talbot and Coots should easily be 2/3 of our 3rd line.
Everyone else does this, now it's my turn
Harts Briere Parise
JVR Giroux Schenn
Talbot Coots Simmonds
Rinaldo Read Wellwood
Seeing if people read this whole thing - flip Briere and Giroux. |

I'd like to see Talbot on Couturier's wing, since Couts is likely going against other team's top lines.
But Slater, Wellwood and Sestito or Rinaldo is a nice 4th line. |

Slater would be a nice addition, not sure if he'd jump at a 4th line role, though.
There's a few good options, though. Dominic Moore, Colin Fraser, Adam Hall, Scott Nichol. - Jsaquella

I think he'd be too expensive. Already carrying a cap hit over $2mm.
EDIT: and what the HELL was in that can? |

I like JVR and still think he will develop into a good top-6 winger. I don't want to see him traded per se, but if it would help them get the D help they need, I would support it. This team's biggest issue is it's lack of a #1 Dman. When Pronger went down, it was going to be an uphill battle. Their #2-4 guys were forced to play #1 minutes and while they addressed the position at the deadline, the defense eventually succumbed to injury and burnout. A Dman to reliably play 23-25 minutes per game is the #1 need of this team. Too bad they don't grow on trees. |

He'd be fantastic if he was willing to come here for cheap and play a 3rd/4th line role. |

Takes far too many penalties. That eliminates him in my opinion. |

True, but he might want to go somewhere with an opportunity to be a top 9 guy. |
