I don't think trading for Luke Schenn makes this team any better except for depth. I really think they are gonna try to get Gusty some big minutes next season. I feel they will package JVR and Mezzy to get that #1 dman and resign Carle. I really don't see Parise coming here. I definitely see V resigned and maybe adding another Talbot-esque player. |

I like JVR and still think he will develop into a good top-6 winger. I don't want to see him traded per se, but if it would help them get the D help they need, I would support it. This team's biggest issue is it's lack of a #1 Dman. When Pronger went down, it was going to be an uphill battle. Their #2-4 guys were forced to play #1 minutes and while they addressed the position at the deadline, the defense eventually succumbed to injury and burnout. A Dman to reliably play 23-25 minutes per game is the #1 need of this team. Too bad they don't grow on trees. - BOSS_TWEED
without question...and that doesn't include the idiotic JVR for L schenn scenario |

Not a fan of Luke Schenn.
Suter would be the perfect coup. He'd be your #1 defenseman playing big minutes in all situations and he'd automatically make everyone else on the blue line better -- by pushing them all back a slot (ie. Coburn from a #2 to a #3 defensemen, etc.). |

I feel sincerely sorry for JVR. How unlucky could one kid get?? He was in for a promising season- started off very well....then BOOM.
The icing on the cake is his foot gets infected. Unbelievable. Poor kid
Rest up and show us what you got next year! |

Holmgrem signs offensive standout from Sask league who goes undrafted, lets go our own draft pick who was an offensive standout at a much higher level?
Do they really think Johnston is good enough to even be on the Phantoms next year?
This is a bit shocking to me. I thought Ranford was making strides in the lackluster areas of his game. Hope were not making a mistake here. |

if I knew we were going to get suter, I would pass on carle even though the latter is a fine addition to any blue line. it's just a matter of the mix of players and when we look at the decline/exit of kimmo, suter makes more sense. of course, we don't "know" anything, so I would be looking at yet-developed types like bogosian as well, if not in addition. |

Bill made it pretty clear as to why Ranford is unlikely to be signed to a deal:
...question marks about his conditioning, skating, size, defensive play and ability to be an effective player at the professional level. |

I'd rather spend the cap space on an already developed #1 guy, then to trade a top young player from our roster (JvR, Schenn, etc.) to acquire a guy who might become a #1. |

I personally don't feel that Suter is a true #1 Defenseman. He's really just a very good #2. It would improve the Flyers by adding a D man who can QB the PP and provide a good shot from the point. But that is really the only area where Suter fits the #1 Defenseman description. In my opinion. So what do we have to pay him? That's the question. If we have to pay him like a #1, I'd pass. |

I'm aware. I watch a lot of Blazers games. These were the same questions being asked on draft day.
I'm saying I personally thought he's made improvements in these areas, and at least deserved a look in the AHL. He honestly could just go back into the draft, which is more then likely what happens.
Not saying Bill is wrong, I'm not sure if that is more of his opinion, or the opinion of the organization. |

He reminds me of Kimmo Timonen in his prime. Was he a #1 guy? I believe so.
Suter is also a very smart, positionally sound defenseman that's not afraid to throw his body around. He's a true, well-rounded #1 defenseman in my books. |
