Souray was tremendous early in the season. He had a foot injury -- later re-aggravated -- that affected him as the season went along. After a red hot start, his offense disappeared. I thought he was a bit of a liability (despite heavy ice time) late in the season playing on the bad foot.
He signed with the Stars last year on a bargain-basement deal to get a chance to return to the NHL. I think he'll remain in Dallas. - bmeltzer
Thanks. Just looking for a player who can provide some help from the point with his shot (& on PP) without having to spend a boat load of cash.
How much do you think Dallas is willing to spend on him? |

It's possible, but they could have done that without firing Paterson. - bmeltzer
I hated the wording of the announcement. that he'd been "relieved." Relieved is what a commanding officer is when he moves from one post to another. Relieved is what you are at the end of a shift when you're a guard. He wasn't relieved, he was fired or if you want to be warm and fuzzy, dismissed. |

Looking at the UFA defenseman for the following year 2013 year. Here are the guys that I have interest in.
Edler
Enstrom
White
Looks like another year where defense is slim. |

doesn't look so good to me.....of course many of those picks were 4th round and later. we sort of deal draft picks often - nastyflyergirl
You also have to consider which ones were traded and what the assets acquired are. It just makes my head hurt. |

There's a big difference though between playing on the phantoms and being a call up and being carried on the roster as the 7th man, though. - funmaster18

I understand that PR doesn't just say "fired" but the euphemism "relieved" just struck a nerve. |

maybe. maybe not. not clear that the law is, um, illegal. and it's bad for the city of allentown, and hence the people of the lehigh valley. you can't leave a 130-acre hole in the heart of downtown. |

Two very good defenseman. Just looking ahead to when Timonens contract comes off the books. You wonder if it makes sense to go after Suter or to wait for one of these guys next summer. |

Well one of the questions that needs to be answered is if you think Edler and Enstrom are as good as Suter is? |

In regards to the Johnston signing, its a solid one for the Flyers. Got to play against him in the SJHL, and hes a solid player. Comparable to Scott Hartnell as style of play.
Very rarely does someone get siged straight outta Junior like that. He will be a shpuld be a solid player for the Phantoms next year. Led Humboldt, and the SJHL in scoring in the playoffs this year.
Flyers also told G Corbin Boes of the Brandon Wheat Kings that they will take him in the later rounds (4-5) if he is still there. Could be 3 Saskatoon boys on the roster next year. |

Honestly I like both those defenseman. I would like to take Edler because he can play an all around game. I just dont think Vancouver lets him walk when the time comes.
Edler
Suter
Enstrom
Thats my order. |

I'd wait. Suter will be way more expensive even though he's not much better than Edler and Enstrom. Only get a big name dman this year if it's Weber. |

I would have no problems as long as the Flyers get one of the three within the next two years. I think Weber is a fantasy at this point especially if Suter goes to UFA. |

Lets all take a moment and let the western conference champion kings bask in the glory!
Now a moment for mike Richards......
Now a moment for Jeff carter...........
Ahhhhhhhh the glory of being a Philadelphia fan! Now go get them boys and raise that cup for suffering LA fan base! - Just5
I for one do not want any parts of those two winning a cup before the Flyers do. What is worse is that they just may win it not even a year after they were both traded.
I don't have anything against Richards or Carter but as a Flyers fan the frustration continues to grow. I was 6 and 7 when the flyers last won and really didn't know what the frank was going on.
From losing to the Islanders, Oilers, getting smoked by Detroit, Lindros getting crushed by Stevens, Losing to Chicago that was a winnable series and NOW Richards gets traded to LA and Carter to Columbus and then gets traded to LA I can't take anymore.
I am not into conspiracies but if there ever was one this is it.
Oh well it's going to svck no matter who wins it all this year. |

Yeah only way Weber leaves is if Suter re-signs but why would they choose Suter over Weber? That being said, $7,000,000+ for Suter is too much. He's not that much of a difference maker. I'd rather go after a short term option than pay that much for Suter. |

Carter has had one good game in the postseason and Richards has been nothing more than a glorified role player. Good for them if they win but they weren't/aren't good enough to LEAD a team to the Cup. Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek and Couturier make the Flyers a much better team and Giroux is the best player this franchise has seen since Bobby Clarke. The future looks bright for us. |

I really don't know what Suter is going to command. $7M is too high for a player that isn't a franchise defenseman (like Lidstrom, Weber, Chara). I honestly believe he can be had with the right contract for 6-6.3M max |

I don't understand this frustration. Regardless of what many think, the Flyers traded 2 very, very good players. And they were added to an already very good team with a very good goaltender. If they win it, good for them. Now for the Flyers perspective. We knew that the deals were made for the future, not for the now. Has that changed? Did I miss something? Is the window closed on that future already? Was the future this year? Based on the moves the potential was there for the team to possibly take a step back to take bigger steps in the future. That outlook hasn't changed. So why is it going to suck? I don't get it. |
