I really don't know what Suter is going to command. $7M is too high for a player that isn't a franchise defenseman (like Lidstrom, Weber, Chara). I honestly believe he can be had with the right contract for 6-6.3M max - stveshdy
There will be a lot of suitors (no pun intended). Detroit will definitely make a huge push. Plus there really is no one near his caliber in this free agent class. I think he'll get at least $7 mill on the open market. It may be possible to trade for his rights and sign him for $6 but I think that's a stretch. |

Carter has had one good game in the postseason and Richards has been nothing more than a glorified role player. Good for them if they win but they weren't/aren't good enough to LEAD a team to the Cup. Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek and Couturier make the Flyers a much better team and Giroux is the best player this franchise has seen since Bobby Clarke. The future looks bright for us. - NickTheKid87
This is the stuff I love. Minimizing the two players role in the Kings Cup run, as they're key players on scoring lines playing big minutes in key situations. Maybe it was the team around them that wasn't good enough? Either way the key word is team. And it seems that some fans are going to blame them for past failures here, and refuse to give them any credit for what's happening in LA. And all that is, is being spiteful. |

I don't understand this frustration. Regardless of what many think, the Flyers traded 2 very, very good players. And they were added to an already very good team with a very good goaltender. If they win it, good for them. Now for the Flyers perspective. We knew that the deals were made for the future, not for the now. Has that changed? Did I miss something? Is the window closed on that future already? Was the future this year? Based on the moves the potential was there for the team to possibly take a step back to take bigger steps in the future. That outlook hasn't changed. So why is it going to suck? I don't get it. - MJL
i get that you say you arent affected by it..
but to say you dont understand how, for some, seeing the 2 faces of the franchise possibly hoisting the Cup together the very year they were traded from a rabid hockey city that hasnt won since 1975 would kind of sting, is simply bizarre, imo |

I agree that the teams that Richards and Carter were on were not good enough to win but they were part of that. If the Flyers had a goalie like Quick when those two were here than I think things would be different. However, with the way the Flyers conduct business, Richie and Carts weren't a good enough core to win a Cup. |

It doesn't at all. I'm rooting for the Kings to win it all. If the Flyers can't win it, I want the Kings to win it. For all of the past Flyers there and players that I'm a fan of. It's just Hockey in the big picture. And I know and feel that the Flyers have a bright future. Some one dies or you have a serious personal issue, that stings. This is just sports. |

an interest stat (to me at least ). going back to the 2006 thru the 2010 draft, the Flyers have selected 34 players. 15 of them went unsigned (2 are still in college so those rights are still held). 8 have been traded or waived. 6 were signed and still in the organization. 4 on the bid club (wellwood, Rinaldo, JVR and Giroux). didn't count last year because those players don't have to be signed until 6/1/13 but of course several are already signed. - nastyflyergirl

There are a few left of that list on the big club. Coots, and MAB.
However, for the most part I agree with you.
Since 2006.. outside of the first round picks.. we have a total 26 goals scored by drafted players.. None more than Nodl and his 12.
Its no secret we suck at drafting impact players after the 1st round..
However, on the other token.. our 1st round picks have been VERY GOOD.
Since 2000:
Justin Williams-28th
Jeff Woywitka- 27th
Joni Pickyournose- 4th
Jeff Carter & Mike Richards- 11&24
Steve Downie- 29th
Claude Giroux- 22nd
JvR-2nd
Sbisa- 19th
Coots- 8th

So again, they were part of the team not being good enough here. And they aren't part of the Kings being good enough now possibly? It's a two way street isn't it? |

We're neighbors, Bill...waving to you from Eagle and Darby-ish.
And for such a little shop, Carl's Cards does it right.
And hopefully Lilja gets limited playing time next season because we can maintain a healthy D-corps. |

let Rich and Carts win the cup....While we set ourselves up to be the next dynasty!!...if those guys win i wouldnt expect much from them for the next 10 years Expect them being dead weight on LA's roster. Id rather have Dustin Brown over Richards...He has brought it this year, |

Richards has been solid but Carter not as much. He was never good in the playoffs for us either though.
Basically what I'm saying is that Richards and Carter were integral to our success here. In LA they have lesser roles. Brown, Kopitar and Quick are the guys that make the Kings the team they are. |

I understand that and your're right from that perspective. But when the Flyers were knocked out, I was disapointed and got over it. Why would it bother me if the Kings win? Good for them. They are deserving. |

Because the goal.. and the only goal.. is to win a cup. We moved away from the two top "core" guys, and now they are looking like they are gonna win it... and we have to watch them smile and skate around all happy. It shouldnt have been that way. Am I happy with the moves.. yes I am. Would I have been happy if they hadnt made the extreme moves, and Richards and Carter would have turned the act around... yes I would. They should have won a cup here. It didnt happen.
NOW, with all of that said. I hope to HELL they win the cup. Why? Because I know it will make our guys want it that much more next year. It will burn them to see those two skate around the ice with the cup. I know it from just the competitive passion I have as an athlete. I know it will motivate not just the guys that were here with Richards and Carter, but the guys who were staple parts of that trade. Guys like Simmonds and Schenn. Coots maybe... Voracek maybe.. but as a whole.. it sucks seeing your former teammates and captain parade around while you sit at home.
Thats why its going to suck. |

I also think Detroit comes hard after Suter (which I think he ends up) but if someone is willing to lay out a long-term deal for 8 years at 50M thats a cap hit of 6.25M. There are plenty of ways to make a deal with Suter without crushing your cap. I don't think he gets $7M but thats my opinion (I do understand why people think he will). |

and i can see that point of view
but i can also see the "ugh, just not the friggin year of the trades" point of view as well. and its not about hating richards or carter...
im not saying you should feel that way.. but to completely not understand why some fans do, is just odd to me |

I'm just saying that people shouldn't be upset that they could potentially win a Cup with the Kings. We have a better chance with the players that we got in return for them than we ever did with them here. Personally, I don't really care who wins the Cup. |

I don't understand why you can't allow other fans to have their own FEELINGS (heck, we're not even at opinion level here) without browbeating them. Let them like/hate/be disappointed/be glad/be mad for heaven's sake. Being unhappy about frick and frack going to the finals as poop all to do with how they feel about the Flyers team and its future. |

Never stated other wise. The decision was a smart one. We need a change.. our window was closing, and ultimately by making those moves we changed the immediate and future look of the team. Giroux took over. We had 15 guys under the age of 26 playing important spots. But at the time.. I still find it very bittersweet.
I will be happy for them. I have my Carter and Richards jerseys still.. But I will also be pissed that yet again this year i have to watch some not Flyer bumhole skate around with the cup... and to boot, it could be the two top Flyers over the past 5 years. |
