Gionta has been a (little) beast tonight, what a play. - _Zippy_
Gio is the man. 4th line is awesome. Great win, this is justice for us losing games 1 and 3. |

Pretty lucky to win that one. That's a lot of team for small Gionta to carry on his back. |

It's crazy to think that he made the playoff team based on one game at the end of the season, and now he is so vital to our team. I don't even know where Carter shot that, I was celebrating as soon as Gionta whipped that puck into the slot. |

It was poetic justice. We have played a terrific series up to tonight. We didn't get many scoring chances tonight but the ones we converted were mostly the ones that are hard for any goalie to stop no matter how good they are. The Rangers also have had defensive breakdowns with defensemen overcommitting, such as Girardi on Carter's goal when Del Zotto was already in the strong side corner. Hard to believe that the best defense corps in hockey history is making these kinds of mistakes. |

Yep. This is the inverse of game 3 where we controlled the game and lost. |

I had the defribrillators on hand. I can't take another like this.
But as we saw with the Florida series, this team really doesn't know how to play with the lead. Granted, the Rangers were flying and absolutely everywhere, but still, the Devils can dictate play a little when ahead you'd assume.
Fleh... crazy win. |

He has been so solid in every area for us. Gotto end it at home and come up with a much better performance. |

I feel like they stopped moving their feet in the defensive zone. They were not in breakout position at all. But then, when the other team carries play sometimes it is all you can do to get out of the defensive zone. We've done the same to them for most of the series.
But whenever we get a big lead it seems like we slow down in all capacities. People might call it sitting back, but I think it's more about getting out of our own end with flow. You can't set up a forecheck without it. Even with leads, we tend to send two guys in to set up man-to-man forecheck situations. Just with a big lead we rarely seem to get it in deep. |

Never thought we would get this far. I thought the better Devils teams would be in the near future when we get Larsson more experience and hopefully get Merrill in there as a top 4 d-man. And establish Josefson and perhaps Tedenby.
It goes to show in hockey you never know. I am thinking of going to the game Friday now. I figure Ranger fans will be reselling some of their tix on Stub Hub. |

I don't know if that was terrible play with the lead or just general lapse of focus and effort from a number of key players.

It was a combination of the Rangers playing well. The Rangers played a great game throughout, we were just opportunistic. The goals they scored were more of the lucky type anyways, not saying our goals were pretty. It's just when they had their legs, they got to areas quicker than they had. We didn't play our best game effort-wise, but played pretty good systematically and were opportunistic. |

After a game like this, I expect Lundqvist to be lights out. Our top players are gonna need to rebound too. |

True. I can see that.
On another note, tonight sort of looked like early season Brodeur. Spectacular saves in an otherwise average goalie performance. Great to get the win in arguably his worst start of the last two rounds. The good news is that Marty usually rebounds BIG after shoddy starts.

The more they show the Richards "lowlight" reel on the postgame, it looks like he might be nursing something. Way slower than usual tonight. Just making bad decisions. |

Just finished watching. Had to DVR it because of class. I'm disappointed in our overall play, think that Stepan pushed Brodeur into the net, but overall happy that we managed to win with a lackluster effort. |

nail biter and the rangers came out strong after they were down, luckily the devils found a way to win
the second the rangers got their 2nd goal i was worried and then they tied it and was going crazy figured they had the momentum and the crowd, but the devils have shown resiliency and pulled through
game 6 is going to be crazy, really dont want to go more than 6 (obviously)
i bet most people will still call the devils a boring trap team without even watching them |
