Two Realistic trade-down scenarios:

1) Edmonton Trades the #1 overall for the #2 overall and the right to swap 1st rounders with Columbus in either 2013 or 2014 (2013 unless 1st overall, then 2014)

2) Edmonton Trades the #1 overall for the #2 overall and Marc Methot.

Trading down and picking Ryan Murray will really put the "in Stu we trust" mantra to the task though.

- Morris

Trading next years first rounders with another team without knowing where your team will finish is an extremely risky thing to do. The second one is probably the most likely to happen but their defense would be pretty full after that so it will be interesting to see what they do if that happens. I'd assume they'd trade Whitney especially if he under-performs. Potter you can just put on waivers.

Smid - Petry
Schultz - Murray
Sutton - Methot

Sounds pretty good. Lets hope we can get Justin Schultz too!

For the record I have had a 3some and the cool one (2 chicks) and not a magazine in sight!! I am both mentally and physically strong hence the reason I get the nickeback stuff!!

Nickelback is embarassingly bad.

If nickelback music had anything to do with your 3some, they were most definetely

I really don't like your stipulation "unless it's 1st overall". We're giving up a 1st overall. Why shouldn't they?

Huge swap for picks including Nash in there somewhere, that way you guys get your PF. Realistically I don't know what Edmonton would have to give up, but it would have to be A LOT.

see, you get it, not sure why the other guy doesnt get it, and im not sure what having a 3 some has to do with liking nickleback. although i imagine that after having 2 chicks satisfy you nickleback doesnt sound like complete crap right after

I actually think if the Oil trade down and take Murray, it's not because of Stu. Kevin Lowe absolutely loves Ryan Murray. Loved everything about him at the World Championships.

I don't see the Oilers and Jackets swapping picks, because the Jackets are likely a last-place team in 2012/2013, and the Oilers should have enough talent to work their way out of a Bottom 5 position. Maybe. Perhaps.

If the Oilers draft Murray and sign UFA Justin Schultz, would adding Methot actually make sense? I'm not sure it does.

- Maxbone

yeah great, i also hear that he thinks keegan can play in the NHL

I sure hope the Jackets dont take the first pick (should they get it) for Yaks. Russians just do not thrive in that system. It will be another burn to the organization

I may just be drunk off my ass, but (frank) it pisses me off if a decision as big as trading down is done based on the opinion of someone who isn't the head scout .Either Lowe should be in the saddle or he shouldn't strongarm picks through.

I think if Columbus is 1st overall protected (i.e. Columbus can choose to send their 2014 pick if they finish last in 2013) they might consider moving the pick.

I just don't see the Oilers doing much better than potentially a 2014 first or Marc Methot. Especially if the Oil make it known it's their intention to trade down.

Methot at best is another Smid/Schutlz for us. Which is okay but not truly what we need. I think an Oilers team with Smid, Schultz and Methot would be really tough to play against IF we had three of Murray, (Justin) Schultz, Petry and Whitney running on all cylinders. It's very likely though that those guys would all be playing optimally next year. In which case, he'd be great to have later on, but mostly a souped up version of Theo Peckham.

The best part about Methot is his contract (3 more years at 3mil). He barely has an offensive bone in his body, but he's a tough SOB and he eats up minutes way better than he's given credit for.

I wouldn't trade Yaks for Ryan Johansen straight up. The Oilers need a big center more than they need another winger, but Yaks is a potential 40g+ guy. Johansen looks promising but he's more of a if-he-scores-30g-per-season-great sort of guy.

I don't think the Oilers can squeeze Johansen AND the #2 overall pick for Yakupov. Too much to ask. I'm not sure what the Oilers would need to throw in to make it work, either. The Jackets already have a very-Gagner type center, they'd have no interest in Hemsky and Maggy might not be proven enough to be worth the risk.

Just curious..did you read what I posted? The Washington fan corrected my spelling but still...

Why shouldn't they give up a 2012 2nd overall and a 2013 1st overall for a 2012 1st overall? Because Yakupov is not likely much better than the 2013 1st overall, let alone the 2013 and then 2012 2nd overall.

Well, we'd gain the right to swap if it's beneficial to us, or retain our pick if it's not. It wasn't exercised, but once when Florida traded their 1st overall they had the same stipulations.

Well but ya see, thats the thing, chad kroeger is nickleback, front man, writes all their stuff, he is also technically theory of a deadman and default as well. I liked them when they first came out with their first album, right up until i heard the song rockstar and it almost made me puke. now there poppy sappy crap just sucks and yes like you said it is jammed down our throats in canada. Clouts says it perfectly, boring, songs about doing it and fighting and stuff, i guess it just got stale and boring. They pretty much just use drop d tuning and play fast loud and hard. Its not rocket science cause i can play most of their songs on my guitar and i suck

The Nickelback Song by Richard Cloutier

It's Friday night and I'm so damn pissed,
When you open your mouth I insert a fist,
Rockin' and rollin' in my rock and roll band,
Mud bogs, and girlies, and 21 grams

Crank up the volume
Rip off the knob
Find me a cliché
I'll write you a song

I'm a punch to your gullet
Your mom with a mullet
I know what I am doin'
Bunk beds are for screwin'
Alcohol, midgets and applesauce
Yankees and parties and punchin' the boss
Lazy and bloated, pointless and lame
You know all my songs sound exactly the same

Ring through your nipple, tats on your ass
No one will ever suggest you have class
My liver is finished, my soul is diseased
I'll drink all your milkshake and get a brain freeze

Crank up the volume
Rip off the knob
My dad is a jerk
Because he found me a job

I'm a punch to your gullet
Your mom with a mullet
I know what I am doin'
Bunk beds are for screwin'
Alcohol, midgets and applesauce
Yankees and parties and punchin' the boss
Lazy and bloated, pointless and lame
You know all my songs sound exactly the same

What if columbus traded johansen and jack johnson for like yakopov and MGS and anton lander

so basically columbus gets yako and drafts galchenyuk

edmonton gets another canadian boy and puck moving jack johnson

Yeah, I wonder about that. Considering that I've heard that either Dumba or Reinhart could become the best D-man of the draft. If they're trading down, do they entertain a bigger proposal to move WAY down?

Well doesnt have to be that much of edmontons part giving up on players but along the lines of that, you get a defender thats developed to score goals and move the puck, you get another canadian boy iunno man helps both teams because im pretty sure columbus is willing to part with anything on their team besides their own 1st rounder since they would rather draft both gal and yako
