Don't see a spot for Murray. We need a defenseman with some offense that can play the point on the PP. Atleast that's my opinion. Ek seems to think the Flyers love Murray. Not sure why. - MJL
I love Doug Murray. Tough as nails. Could bring the type of presence that the Kings have gotten from Scuderi and Willie Mitchell. |

I would take a "Flyer" on J Shultz if he was available through UFA because I agree we need someone with offensive upside. That said, I would also resign Kubina in that case if Kubina had anything left in the tank as a backup plan. You just can't bank on Shultz being the answer to our problem. No experience to show he will fill that role.
Oddly, if he signs with the Ducks (likely) we could look at a possible trade to bring in one of their Offensive D men (Sbisa, Fowler, or Visnovsky). Bringing us full circle to Bob. Would ANA want Bob as a part of a trade package for one of these D men?
I feel sick from all this ridiculous banter/specualtion....how does EK do it? |

It's not that I don't like Murray as a player. Where is he going to play and with whom? We already added that needed presence in trading for Grossmann. Unless they are going to ask more out of Meszaros on the PP, then Murray isn't the kind of player I want. He only has one year left on his deal, so depending on what the cost is to get him, I'd be okay with him for a one year stop gap. But I want some more mobility on the backend. |

Good call. If Bourdon or Gusty were more "ready" to take a step forward then I would consider it. They don't seem to be and their injuries were a bit stalling this year. Mezzy is streaky and has played that role prior in his NHL career. He hasn't showed it recently though. I too would look elsewhere. |

If I can't get a good puck mover, then I am using some of our assets to move up to like 5 or 6 in the draft and take one of the stellar d-men there. |

You have to move into the top 10 to get one of the top 4 d-men in this draft. You can just sit tight at #20 and still get a solid prospect.
We already have very little "assets" to move, we need to add to what we already don't have in our system not make it worse. |

Which asset do you think is going to get you that high in the draft? Are you prepared to part with Schenn or Couturier? |

It's a decent draft for d-man depth that moving up isn't really something they need to do to get one.
I sit at #20 & even consider sliding back to get an extra pick or 2 and if lucky 1 for 2013. |

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
It is confirmed Justin Schultz de-registered from Wisconsin earlier this week, starting a process that could make blue-chip ANA prospect UFA
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Obvious strategy now for ANA is to trade Schultz's rights to club Schultz will sign with but Ducks would need Schultz's cooperation on that.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Schultz will become UFA - able to listen to offers - prior to draft but not able to actually sign til July 1. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Is Bobrovsky Suited to be a Backup - bmeltzer
I didn't read the blog. It was simply a great question, so I'd rather go straight to my own reply. I would trade Bob. I don't think it's fair to him to have him backing up to a starter with 8 years left on his contract. I would I'd go after a more veteran back up like Ray Emery or someone along those lines. |

That list is unbelievable. Of course the sixers and flyers get treated to Evan turner and jvr with the #2 picks. It's awesome being a Philly fan

I'm not sure what to think when I see this list. JvR made the choice to go back to school after being drafted, which I think was a good choice. He earned a spot coming out of his first ever training camp and went on to have a decent rookie season. He then had a 20 goal second season. I know it seems like he's had a poor 3rd season but I felt he had a good start and then injuries got to him. It happens. It's tough to say that JvR had a poor season when he was unable to play up to our standards when he's had chronic injuries. I'm hoping the Flyers don't use this season against him as well.
Ideally the line of the future should be Giroux centering JvR and Voracek. If JvR could be more willing to get his nose more dirty and Voracek shoot more, these guys could be dangerous in 2 or 3 seasons' time. At the same time we could really use an upgrade on D. If the Flyers are serious about Weber, it could very much take one of these players (and then some) to get him.
My oh my, it's going to be an interesting summer. |

Honestly if Timonen can come back healthy, then I would feel okay with our current defense. Yes I wouldn't mind signing Kubina if the price is right and hope he was just really bangged up, but I guess the Flyers would have said something if he was... I mean as long as there isnt any major injuries, and Carle can be resigned...

It's really not that bad. What about instead of trading for some "almost" number 1, you use some assetts to trade up in the draft and draft the next Number 1 guy. - RooNosHockey
I've been saying this for the last 3 weeks... |
