Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Justin Schultz - bmeltzer
I wonder what Schultz wants, in terms of role. In Anaheim, it seems that he'd have a great chance to step right in and play a load of minutes. If he just wants to get a location, it's likely the pitch won't matter. |

I love how one beat reporter for the Minnesota Tribune -- with no indication that he even has any sources whatsoever -- is now the definitive source on the pending tampering charges that must surely be going Toronto's way. |

I am not surprised by the tampering charges directed at the Leafs. Leaf media just makes stuff up and there is so much speculation by the Leaf hype machine it looks like Burke is conspiring to do something he should not.
But even if he plans to do nothing the hype and speculation would be the same type of overdrive. Burke has to operate in a fishbowl. I doubt there has been any tampering. But, it is almost taken as fact that Burke has established himself as the front runner to sign Shultz. Bizarre. |

Thank you Bill, for making this site relevant all on your own.
Regardless of what happens with the Schultz situation, Homer's #1 job this off-season is to acquire a top pairing dman or at least, a plyr who strongly projects to be that player in the near future.
if there is a forward I would try to add, it would be a guy like Shane doan, though it doesn't seem likely that he would want to move east. if JVR is moved for a dman - please stop the L Schenn talk because that's a flat-out bad deal - then the flyers would do well to add a scoring winger with decent size. |

I would like a guy who projects as a top-pairing defensemen, but it's not a move that has to be made this off-season, imo. |

Nice update...I think the adding D, and righ handed shooting D needs to be a priority for organizational depth...but not just for the sake of chasing a name like Shultz.

I believe Homer will strike a trade involving a d-man similiar to the acquiring of Meszy. Might be a player instead of a pick, but I guy who can play top 4 minutes and be an offensive threat. Then again, Garrison fits the profile pretty closely without giving up assets. |

Hence, the words "reportedly", "said to be" and similar qualifiers that appear here and elsewhere. |

considering that it was a move he would have been wise to make last yr, I think it is. coming into this yr with almost as many questions about kimmo as we had at this time last yr about pronger, the flyers face the immediate future w/o a top pairing leader in his prime...with a solid/serviceable d corp, but nothing special.
if the flyers view themselves as real cup contenders this year and watching them struggle to get out of their zone against NJ, I would try to address need before the season. |

lightning in a bottle. I base my projections on what is usually required for a cup winner. besides, bryz will always need help that even a 40 yr old Marty doesn't. |

The motive behind a move of this importance shouldn't be based on when it should be or should've been made. If your going to use significant assets, whether it is players, draft picks, or Cap space. Then you have to make the right move, not just make a move to make a move. |

I would not be surprised. Homer always goes overboard with addressing what went wrong last season. I see two issues; the defense and inexperience. The rookies getting another year older will address the inexperience. While, the defense injuries and the unlikely return of Pronger... Point to a huge signing in defense. My guess is Weber. Homer is going to throw a package for him; Winger, Defenseman, 1st rounder, and a prospect. We've got enough depth to pull it off. Weber cap should be taken care of with what's leaving or Jagr will be gone... |

With the Rumor that Parise and Suter want to play together, I really hope that Nashville ponies up on those guys, then decides to trade Weber. Really if they resign Suter, and sign Parise, then they could probally get Meszaros, Schenn, Cousins, and a first from the flyers for Weber. That is a lot of new pieces that make thier team much better now and in the future. IMO it would make them the favorites going into next season. |

I think it's all about the right mix and a team-wide commitment to playing the same style. Not about having superstars. |

Which Defenseman do you think Nashville will want? And if I'm Nashville, your not getting Weber without including Couturier in the deal. |
