I would not be surprised. Homer always goes overboard with addressing what went wrong last season. I see two issues; the defense and inexperience. The rookies getting another year older will address the inexperience. While, the defense injuries and the unlikely return of Pronger... Point to a huge signing in defense. My guess is Weber. Homer is going to throw a package for him; Winger, Defenseman, 1st rounder, and a prospect. We've got enough depth to pull it off. Weber cap should be taken care of with what's leaving or Jagr will be gone...

I would not be suprised either, but Nashville isn't going to trade Weber until they are sure they can sign Suter, and from what I heard Suter wants to play with Parise and it may take until July 1 for Nashville to sign Suter. They wont move Weber because he is RFA and they will most likely have 1 more yaer with him. They cant afford to lose both. So I don't see A "big" Pronger deal going down unless Suter signs.

With the Rumor that Parise and Suter want to play together, I really hope that Nashville ponies up on those guys, then decides to trade Weber. Really if they resign Suter, and sign Parise, then they could probally get Meszaros, Schenn, Cousins, and a first from the flyers for Weber. That is a lot of new pieces that make thier team much better now and in the future. IMO it would make them the favorites going into next season.
- RooNosHockey

If I'm Nashville, I'm not making that deal. Cousins is a throw in, not a main piece. They can do better trading Weber then that.

Where are you seeing these rumors at that Suter and Parise want to play together?

I have doubts that Parise, in the middle of a Cup run is going to be talking to people about where and with who he wants to play next Season. Or is even thinking about next Season right now.

I think it's just a pipedream from a Red Wings writer.

I recall, a poster here relayed one of those blurbs fantasy sites append to players. It was from a Detroit reporter in a bit about how the Red Wings want to sign both, I think.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking from a reporter. But whatever... now is the time to talk about these far-fetched ideas and stuff. Hockey withdraw...

Do you guys think the possible reason Suter doesn't want to play for a big east team is because the Atlantic is so stacked it might be hard to project the better teams for the next 5 years? And the possibility that the new re-alignment will be approved at the CBA negotiations and make the Atlantic teams battle each other in the first 2 rounds.... If it were me, I wouldnt want to do that, no matter how easy the travel schedule is...

I think it's all about the right mix and a team-wide commitment to playing the same style. Not about having superstars.
- bradleyc4

I didn't say anything about a superstar...star yes, but elite players not required.

most cup teams of the last decade have had one of a standout goalie and/or d corp/star and those are elements I would try to model after.

Which Defenseman do you think Nashville will want? And if I'm Nashville, your not getting Weber without including Couturier in the deal.
- MJL

Obviously, this is all speculation and who knows if and how the negotiation works... I have a feeling that Weber isn't happy in Nash - without this we have no shot at getting him... And, I'm not sure what Nash needs... If I'm Homer I'd be pretty open, but Giroux and Couturier are deal breakers.

But, Nash still could walk away with a very good deal; Winger - JVR, Read, Simmonds or Maybe even Schenn / Defenseman - Depends who the winger is (no deal breakers)... / Prospect - Wellwood, Harry Z., Holmstrom, or Rinaldo all have a pretty good chance for a regular spot in the NHL / and any 1st rounder isn't bad. Remember; Richards and Carter only got 2 guys in return.

I see a pronger like trade coming at the draft
- griouxmvp2012

I can't see trading our young assets when the flyers would get major cap relief next summer with kimmo coming off. Im good if they want to add a player like garrison and call it a day. Make the splash next year no need to panic.

I'm not interested in Nash's humangus big cap hit. I would rather watch the Rangers trade dubinsky, Del Zotto, and Kreider for him and not have any money left to pay anyone else, ever again!!!!!

Honestly, I don't see Nashville having any interest whatsoever in Wellwood, Zolnercyiuk, Holmstrom, or Rinaldo as part of a trade for Weber. And remember, Richards and Carter weren't even close to being considered the best player at their position in the NHL.

Why would Nashville trade a Superstar NHL defenseman without asking for one of your top current star or future star players in return?

Right now, the Predators have all the leverage, agreed. But that leverage starts to lessen if they have to agree to a one-year deal with Weber and then drops off a cliff after next season.

I was thinking Dubinsky and a 1st for Nash.

I wouldn't trade Del Zotto or Kreider straight up for Nash (and that contract).

It does, but Nashville isn't going to give him away. People are suggesting Zolnercyiuk and Holmstrom as a prospect in part of the deal. Those players don't have anywhere near the value that is being suggested.

Too true Bill. And it becomes even more "slippery" depending on the fate of Suter. If he resigns, then Weber is likely gone, but that also slightly lowers Weber's value. If he doesn't, then Nashville will be forced to hold onto him, until his value is vary low... It's such a slippery slope Nashville is on right now...
