What's the number? They are supposedly one of the teams in the running for suter. This signing would affect that I would think - Just5
They needed to let Oduya walk as well as move a few pieces to find the space for Suter.... or at least I thought I read that. I'll leave it to someone more knowledgable than me, though, to inform me of the accuracy on that. |

So, who won the Cup this year? It's been a long time since I saw any playoff hockey, so I can only assume that I must have missed the Final.

As far as the Weber blockbuster goes, I am NOT an advocate of that at all. He's a beast. Yeah. But I just don't want to see Homer trade away half of the core and future of this team, including first rounders, for a player. Even Weber.
I just don't want to see it happen. I have a bad feeling about it, I guess... |

Oduya is not comparable to Carle. Carle is better player. - MJL
Fact, if Matt wants to stay and the Flyers want him here then I'm all for it. He angers me sometimes, but so does Giroux, so... He was playing 27 minutes a night, many times paired wth an inexperienced partner. He gets leeway from me. |

Under a $64.3mm cap, they have about $6.1mm in cap room, prior to Oduya and Mayers.
They could move Hjalmersson & Kane and easily fit Suter.
If the cap goes up to $69mm, they'd have almost $11mm without trading Kane |

Imho the Flyers could use a nice, relaible cadillac. They could even go for a Mercedes. Weber is a Lamborghini. (obviously this analogy can be skewed based on your opinion of car manufacturers.) |

I would be okay with giving up some of our youth with potential for a known super-star. The alternative would be to have nothing but run of the mill d-men in a couple of years. I would rather have a balanced team with some superstar forwards, and a superstar defender, and a goalie returning to form as another star of the league.. |

Keep your Lambo, they are nothing but flash for the not so well hung. Weber is a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport or McLaren MP4. Veroom.

That's exactly right Brad. I feel after every single series loss many misconeptions are formed due to the way the team lost. Last year, no doubt, the goaltending was terrible and this year the D struggled (but who didn't?), but I'm not so sure that it makes you have to go crazy to acquire a top flight player. My reasoning? Everything has to go right in the playoffs to win... EVERYTHING. Teams like Nashville and the New York Rangers are prime examples of teams with perhaps the best goaltenders and defenses in the league and they are both home. It's always what the Flyers did wrong, not the opponent talent, when it comes to THIS team. Last time I checked, the Devils were quietly a pretty good team that has erupted. Make your moves Homer, but don't stray from the what you have built. - Flyers1218
This is so 100% the truth but no one wants to hear it and it leads to boring posts.
Truth is, we played a Devils team playing great and we weren't.
Health, matchups, momentum, styles of play, hotness of goalies...a lot of variables that need to align the right way. |

Keeping with the Car anology, we have a fleet of volvos... Not flashy, but safe and gets the job done. At least they aren't Pirus's. |

The Flyers need a strong commitment to team defense. On paper, a top 6 of Timonen, Coburn, Meszaros, Carle, Grossmann and Gustafsson isn't bad at all. Compare it to the top sixes of New Jersey, Phoenix or the Rangers. It's as good on paper as any of them.
But those teams all play defense well, as a team. |

Here is my problem with a blockbuster trade for Weber.
Say its a crazy package...
Coots, a signed Czechie, Meszy, 1st or Schenn, Read, Coburn 2 1sts
We get Weber.
Imagine if Weber were to sustain a season ending injury. It would devastate the team. I dont like putting all of my eggs into one basket. If we are gonna trade for a d-man... I want it to be a straight up trade... 1 for 1

BINGO!
Id love to see them sign a depth like Campbell or Slater (as we have talked about before). We saw the difference a guy like Talbot made.. add another! |

I agree with you for the most part, except for the Rangers defense. They are better IMO. They have more upside with Staal and McDougnah, and I think thier whole defense's cap hit is like as much as our top 3 guys... |

But your just looking at it from 1 season. Weber would be a long term comitment. Without getting into what we give up, I can tell you 1 thing. It is MUCH easier to replace forwards then it is to get franchise D-men like Weber. Guy's like Weber just dont become available very often.... Unless the Islanders or Ottawa is trading them away... |
