Would that top-6 be good in the Flyers system or style of play? I really don't have an answer but the Rangers do have some talent on the blueline. - stveshdy
Impossible to answer, but I like the talent level and age of their blueline.
Well, closing the gap between forwards and D isn't a change of system - it's players being more aware. It's like baserunning in baseball. You can't blame the 1B and 3B coaches for idiocy on the bases. For reference, please see: HAYES, VON. - Flyskippy
I agree Skip. However, as a coach that has to be stressed and if players don't do it you have to have consequences for it.

i feel like 80s skip was vehemently defending von against all the haters.
Their top 4 is reallllly solid and reallly young... but the 3rd pair leaves something to be desired.
I also think a lot of their success is a result of the outstanding team defense, and mistakes being covered up by Lundqvist.
I honestly think that if we were to switch our d-men for theirs.. they wouldnt look nearly as good. - jak521
I think all defenseman regardless of how good they are can be made to look bad without the lack of support from the team defensive game. As well as facing a relentless unending forecheck such as in the Devils Series where their own team is spending little time pressuring the opposition. Not saying that the defense didn't make any mistakes or didn't play poorly at times in that series also.
Make that Rinaldo and get it done. I hear she's tough in the corners and doesn't take dumb penalties. - Scoob
All joking aside for a second, I have a lot of respect for Rinaldo the way he came out against the Devils. For sure, took a dumb penalty, but he showed more energy than anyone else.
That being said, you have to give up something to get the quality of Alice.
Here is my new thread - players that we think shouldn't be traded but are not as valuable as we think:

I completely agree...
You could take 6 below average d-men and make them look damn good with great team defense and goal tending, or take 6 very solid d-men and make them look bad with porous team defense, lack of forward support, and poor goal-tending.
So the last 3 cup winners, possibly 4, have all beaten the Flyers in the playoffs.
Which leads me to believe that the only way the Flyers will ever win the cup is to not allow themselves to be beaten by the eventual cup winner. - feelingkettle
