Well looks like the Suter dream is over. Lidstrom to retire, and im 99.9% sure Suter will be his replacement. Him or Weber. - FLYERSROCK!
Good, paying Ryan Suter $7mm a year would be a nightmare. |

Not to reopen the can of worms, but there was likely no one reason that Carter and Richards were traded.
I feel there was more to it than hockey reasons, and also that the partying angle was not a major factor, if a factor at all. |

Just a hunch but I'd think he might take a little less if he went to the Wings. |

If the partying wasn't a factor, the fact that Giroux and JvR looked like they were both going to surpass what Carter and Richards bring to the table could be it. |

I agree, let's just rebuild Pronger by using Kubina as parts. |

Ryan Suter isn't a replacement for Pronger either. While the replacement might even be unattainable I'd rather not settle for overpaying for someone when a more suitable player could come along eventually. Every year players become available via trades and what have you. |

there was undoubtedly something going on there. IMHO to deny it and act like those trades were just to clear salary is like the picture I posted of the guy sticking his head in the sand. I think people just can't admit or face the fact that those guys really did do things that were not becoming of a captain and alternate captain of a championship team, hence the trades. Personally I believe if these trades were just to make room then Holmgren and snider are not who we think they are, and to say that would be idiotic in itself considering the success, however lacking of a Championship, this Franchise has had over the years. Maybe if it was Glen Sather who traded them, but I'm sorry I don't know how more clear it can be without all parties involved just coming out and saying "We traded them because they were cancer."
Now you see all these people crawling out of the woodwork talking out the sider of their face implying how the moves weren't necessary, when all season long those two did NOTHING to help the teams they were on. Now they caught a lil fire in the playoffs and people are ready to turn on Snider and Homer, well I got news, They're on a pretty good damn team and lucky to be there PERIOD.
GO Devils. - JoeRussomanno
I have been saying it from day one they shouldn't have been traded. To your point about the waring the C it got them to the cup. Wasn't their fault they lost it was thier third D pair Blew and they had a career AHL goalie. Plus Richards if he wins the cup this year will have won championships at all levels including juniors, ahl, and international. Was there something wrong in the locker room yes I believe so but I think it was more Richards and carter didn't get Along with Lavy or Pronger's presence. I have read a few times Pronger wasn't the greatest locker room guy to get along with. |

lockerroom, drinking whatever off ice issues aside, it's pretty much accepted the Flyers got a handsome return, are better for the future and quite frankly aren't missing either player. They got to the cup two years ago, yes but the opponents they faced were VERY favorable for them say what you want about the AHL goalie the guy playing down the other end wasn't much better. oh and BTW I've been following this thread since September despite not registering since December when I decided to really get involved with the great conversation that is usually carried here and I don't recall seeing much of the "wish we didn't trade Richards and Carter talk" until today, hmm what a coinkydink. |

Oh yea, Suter was attractive, but he's going to break the bank because the market says so. Paul Martin has a 5mil cap hit . I'm excited to see what they do, Lord knows Snider won't just sit by, father time is ticking. |

As aged as Mr Snider is even he must realize a little more patience could pay huge dividends for this team. |

The poster you mention Joe has offered zero facts to outline the "mess" as you call it. - MJL
I didn't know that beliefs needed facts. Never did I once say that the only reason they were moved was because of partying. Never did I say I know for a fact that this why this happened. What I did say is that I think it's crazy for ppl to suggest that we are wrong when they themselves have only beliefs to base their opinions on. But to say I haven't given "any facts" is in "fact" wrong.
Fact: a dry island was implemented in the attempt to limit drinking the night before games.
Fact: Frick and frack (as well as a few others) refused to participate.
Fact: my super credible source outlined what happened in the days following the end of the season and at the Kenny chesney concert.
Fact: they were both traded exactly one week after the concert.
Fact: I'm the man.
Fact: they were both traded |

with exception to fact 5 (no offense) I just don't know how people can't concede that these two were a basket of fun that management had enough of

I'd like to touch on the issues in the locker room issue. LOL
You know what causes that? Losing does, or at least a team not meeting expectations. When a team is winning and playing to it's potential, you rarely have locker room issues surfacing. Look at the Phillies. Now you have Victorino and Lee going at it in the dugout. Coincidence with the losing? I think not. The losing creates the locker room issues. Not the other way around.
