Here are some interesting tidbits on the rumor I heard recently:
Kane
Stalberg
Hammer
Pirri
for
Nash
Methot
Pick
1) The NHL cap hits match almost perfectly ($10.8 million to $10.7 million)
2) I had heard from a separate source at the TDL that Hjalmarsson and Stalberg might be part of a Nash offer by the Hawks
3) I have heard separately about Nash and Methot being packaged by the Blue Jackets in another rumor with another team
Nash for Kane straight up is a $1.5 million added cap hit for the Hawks. - John Jaeckel
id be good wit that but which pick from cbj ?

Wouldn't asking for the second overall pick be a big overpayment by the Blue Jackets? I mean what would they have to build with then if they trade Nash? |

Ty,
Actually what you told me about Ryan makes me respect him more. I don't see that as weak. Maybe there is more to the story, but . . . - John Jaeckel
Oh I feel the same way, I'm just saying that Kaner seems like he has had it relatively easy compared to other players coming up through the ranks and he shouldn't take advantage of it.
JJ - I'm assuming you're watching Nik's presser, if not, Barry Smith and Dave Lewis were pointed out in his thank you speech. I definitely think Smith should be in consideration to join Q but I guess not if that's going to cause issues with the staff.
Lewis is currently an assistant with Carolina and with his relationship with Scotty he could be another possibility. He's a pretty great hockey mind as well. |

Have not heard that.
Did hear last night "rumors are flying" around the GM meetings, some of them very interesting (re: Chicago). No specifics yet.
I will not be surprised if this season is lost or partially lost. It is a new day in the NHLPA with Fehr in charge. He's a rat and his lasting mark on baseball is ridiculously high salaries and the reduction of the "national pastime" to 2nd or 3rd status in the hierarchy of pro sports in North America, behind the NFL and maybe the NBA.
Bettman won big time in 2005. It would be wise for him to approach Fehr as a partner at least to start. Take any acrimony out of it and work on a deal. "Greed" is not a popular concept these days. - John Jaeckel
Not to get political here, but since you brought it up:
Owners didn't do badly during the Fehr era:
LA Dodgers, totally mismanaged and financial looted by McCourt and his wife, sold for $2 BILLION.
Chicago Cubs - no championships is 30 years of Tribune ownership - sold for over $800 MILLION (purchased for about $32 MILLION).
New stadiums everywhere that wanted them - mostly paid for by taxpayers, even where (Pittsburgh, for instance) the additional revenues did not go to improving performance on the field.
Record attendance, record revenues.
Shouldn't the players be able to strongly bargain for some of that? |

I have been a hockey guy my entire life, but I know a lot of people who have just joined the HOCKEY IS A GREAT SPORT! Club...and imo,if there is even a portion of the season cancelled because of a lockout, the NHL will lose these fans, and it will take them a while before they win them back..I hope Bettman and Fehr have this on their minds |

Those who think PK's troubles are isolated to Madison and the cabbie arrest really need to rethink that........
Those who think because he has his face down and asleep at a bar means he doesn't have a fondness for a white powdery substance do not know what cocaine does to you after the high is gone.......
If you think the hawks are not nervous that they've invested almost 6 million dollars in a guy who could go over the line at any moment and severely embarrass the organization with a more serious situation really have no clue..... |

I respect the struggles Ryan has gone through, JJ I discussed a more personal tidbit on Kane threads ago, why are his issues and flaws in personality not sympathized with? I'm not by any means saying his actions are acceptable. But Kane was not given the best upbringing. His father sells his memorabilia out of his basement, his Dad used to not allow him to go to birthday parties and be a kid at a young age. He struggled to be accepted by his teammates because he was playing on six teams and it limited his ability to bond with the other kids. My friend played with him as a Pee Wee and Bantam. He said Kaner was picked on teased and left out countless times. This kid got this far because he played so much hockey but I think the flaws in his personality stem from this as well. Toews tells stories in interviews of playing on the backyard rink with the other kids in the neighborhood, he went to Shattick and North Dakota. They have been brought up in two very very very different ways. I think to write the ship and send him packing for a thirty year old is a very big risk. |

I've said before that players can win the Cup too early. I know how it sounds, but it can turn 3 Cups into 1 and done pretty easily. Just look at Getzlaf and Perry as prime examples.

I would do it if only it was either the 2nd pick or the 31st. If it was a 3rd round or later pick I think it would be an overpayment on our part.
In the rumored deal I would try and expand it or change it up a bit and ask for Brassard.

Unless the cap piece is a major concern of the Hawks, I think the Hawks would be big losers in that deal. If it were Kane and Hammer for Nash and Methot, I'd be fine with that deal, but giving away essentially Pirri and Stalberg is too heavy a price. |

I have no objections to that sentiment - as long as Bettman is included with Fehr (and the unreasonable owners are included with the unreasonable players) when handing out responsibility for maintaining the season. |

I can't speak for everyone, but I get uncomfortable when people start talking about his affinity to nose candy. I don't know if that's conjecture or fact and I don't care. You talk about booze, that's one thing. If he's Doc Gooden, that's another. |

I agree, it's upsetting and while he is not the aforementioned Theo Fleury, this is still cause for concern. |

You do realize you are talking about a 5 year NHL veteran whose numbers have fallen the last two seasons and his maturity has not improved at all. Also when Kane is Nash's age he may not be making clowns of goalies as a hawk. He is a FA in 3 seasons. - moylander
Nash is 27/28 yrs old and has played 9 seasons in the NHL. That is not the same as Kane. Kane's only declined last season because of Q's circus sideshow linechanges and he had to play center last season. Put him back with Toews and his production will come right back up. |

I did not. I went to the gym.
Not surprised. People can say what they want about Scotty, Smith et al, but Steve Yzerman, Lidstrom and Datsyuk and Zetterberg were not born great. Their individual work ethics AND the Detroit system and tutelage of Scotty's crew made them great players.
Personally, I doubt Q would hire Smith or Lewis. I think, politically—and maybe practically—it would be the smart move. Never know though.
P.S.: I once passed Lewis on Evergreen Rd. in Southfield, MI and he was driving a cream colored Sedan de Ville . . . |

Dorsett? Hawks tried to acquire him last year.
Everyone puts down Hawk pro scouting, mostly because of Montador, I believe. But the names I heard last year they were after (Doresett, Winnik, Thompson, Clarkson) are all very effective players.

BTW, apparent conspiracy theory in the NBA: Hornets (owned by the league, like the Coyotes) won the first pick in the draft lottery last night - apparently some unhappy campers resulted. |
