I get what you are saying, but Detroit isn't getting worse. It can't - it's done. The downtown area is burned out. Besides, with the type of money the players are making and the area that they'll be buying a home... They don't have to worry about bad parts getting close - unless their is a zombie apocalypse. And, with the type of money these guys make - they could live in Canadian - Windsor.
ps. I think it's funny that most Flyers don't live in Philly or even PA... most live in NJ. - leon neon
Not sure of the history of Vorhees and why it is the epicenter, but I'm sure a lot of it is proximity to practice.
Detroit vs. Vorhees - still don't think Suter is coming here.
Since no one gives a crap about my opinion, I'll ask a question. If you had to rank the Flyers top 5 in all around skill, importance to the team, most valuable, whatever .... what would it be?
1 Giroux (I would go a healthy Pronger #1 for the record)
2 Coburn
3 Grossman
4 Timmo
5 Bryz
Just off the top of my head but I have to think this one out. Can't believe my own rankings as of now.

So i was thinking about how great a job Homer did with the not so glamorous additions last year... the less sexy ones.
Talbot- What a fantastic grab. I think this was hands down the best of the less sexy moves, and possibly the best move of all.
Read- not a single person can honestly say that Read didnt go above and beyond their expectations.. what a great signing that has turned out to be.
Grossmann- At the time I wasnt sure it was gonna be a big move, in fact I thought it was just a move to sure up that bottom pair, but now that I have seen him in action, and what he brings... wow. We got a younger top 4 physical shutdown d-man for a 2nd? Great moves.

1- Giroux
2- Timonen
3- Bryz
4-Hartnell
5-Talbot
Now going into next season... I think Coots is gonna be on there in place of Briere. |

y u say no one gives a crap about your opinion? I'd remove the 2 and 3 rankings on your list and replace with Couturier and Briere or Carle. A year ago I'd have had Timmo much higher. |

If Coburn (or someone) could figure out how to tap into his feisty/mean game on a nightly basis, he'd be right up there in my top 5.

Here is my initial logic. Giroux no brainer.
Coburn, IMO, steps up in the playoffs. Reminds me of Chris T playing Jagr.
Grossman b/c of the team performance after his arrival. And a physical D which we lack without Pronger.
Timmo b/c he is solid. Wears down a bit at year end which is why he isn't #2.
Bryz - complain if you will, but don't forget our history and past alternatives.
Briere is good (real good) but on a shift by shift basis, not always a force. Maybe a poor analogy, but sort of like Barry Sanders. Unstoppable on certain plays, but a lot of -2 and -3 yard plays b/c he is dancing around. Overall, I am describing a lack of consistent dominant play.
Hartnell - before this year I deemed him as the worst athlete I have seen on skates. My opinion has changed, but give me a good d-man in the playoffs.

no doubt. - JoeRussomanno
Add JvR too...got off to a great start only to be brought down by injuries. I'd like to see the physical aspect we saw against the Bruins two seasons ago show up again, along with a year off of the IR list.
I would be interested in the reasoning behind his not having his surgical procedure yet...the earlier the better, right?

Talbot - fantastic grab - no doubt. Should be on 3rd line with Coots all season, barring injuries.
Read - agreed
Grossman - agreed. This was a steal of a trade.

Does anyone think that it would be a good idea to bring in a vet like Jamie Langenbrunner this year like they did with Jagr last year? Someone that could be a role model on and off the ice for the kids, and maybe show the forwards how to play a better defensive game, much like Jagr did for forwards this year playing offensively? |

If Jagr walks, it most certainly is an option. You need a mix, and there are enough young guys on this team to warrant another mentor like that around.

Always a good thing to being in a veteran presence on a young team for leadership and experience. Don't know if Langenbrunner is the right guy, but I realize that was just an example. It would be great for that vet to be a 4th line Center PKer, who can also move up and check well defensively late in games and take defensive zone draws.

Not sure if I am saying the same thing, but a guy like Fedotenko or Justin Williams seems perfect for the 3rd / 4th line. I would prefer this type of player over an aging, slow player like Jagr / Langenbrunner.
Jagr was great for the regular season but not a #1 for the playoffs.
I am sure if we trade a decent forward in the offseason they will have a career statistic year somewhere else (e.g. Versteeg, Lupol) |
