Giroux
Bryzgalov
Coburn
Carle
Timonen.
Not neccessarily in that order. - MJL
Holy crap. If you replace Carle with Grossman, we have the same list of players.
Tell me what you like in the stock market so I can place an order in the morning (and before the karma wears off!) |

Holy crap! LOL. Well 3 of them are pretty obvious. And I went with what I feel are the most important positions on the ice. That's not to minimize the importance of other players that aren't on that list. But you could only pick 5.

Detroit is the most dangerous city in the United states, I don't see how that wouldn't cross someone's mind when considering living in and around the city. WOW what a new concept - JoeRussomanno
I really don't think people who live in the suburbs of any big city typically consider the crime in the city. Most people who live in the suburbs never even go into or through the city they live near. I just try to steer clear of post offices. |

Like I said - holy crap, I had the same logic (most important position on the ice).
Stated differently, I feel the loss of Grossman would be tougher to overcome than the loss of Briere or Hartnell. Our lack of health on D during the Devils series I think proved some of that. |

Not sure if I am saying the same thing, but a guy like Fedotenko or Justin Williams seems perfect for the 3rd / 4th line. I would prefer this type of player over an aging, slow player like Jagr / Langenbrunner.
Jagr was great for the regular season but not a #1 for the playoffs.
I am sure if we trade a decent forward in the offseason they will have a career statistic year somewhere else (e.g. Versteeg, Lupol) - Daman
I would love to keep Jagr at around 2 mill. Let him play on the first line, but give him more games off so he is not useless in the playoffs. I know this philosophy will never be used, but I like it.

I hear you but top players aren't going to sit out games just because you want to rest them . Jagr is already concerned about ice time in certain situations and his role on a team. Want to make a player like Jagr unhappy, tell him he has to sit out when he's healthy. Not going to work.

Yea, I know this. I just wish he would realize that he is 40 years old. He would get more ice time on a game by game basis, but take off a game every 2 weeks or so. In the end it would benefit everyone IMO.

I actually would prefer to see this philosophy with Timmo. Less ice time next year. |

I think he does realize he's 40 and knows he doesn't have much time left. So he wants to play as much as he can.

Talbot - fantastic grab - no doubt. Should be on 3rd line with Coots all season, barring injuries.
Read - agreed
Grossman - agreed. This was a steal of a trade. - Daman
Build a good 4th line and roll the lines with Talbot on the 4th line. (rest him for PK).
Read... Trade him now - I'm not kidding. Not because he is bad, but because he is worth something, and I don't think he'll keep up this level of play (If we keep him, I hope he does)... And, I am not suggesting to dump him, only trade if we can get a good trade.
Grossman... I am worried about his health. The reason we don't have a cup in the past few years is that the defense was beaten up and injured.

It's not so much how much ice time, it's what type of icetime. PK minutes are hard minutes to play. That's what needs to be reduced. They can do that two ways. With an addition to the blueline who can take some of those minutes off of Timonen. And by reducing the number of penalties they take and reducing their 29th ranked 512 minutes played shorthanded last Season.

Read's greatest value right now is his production versus his 900K Cap hit. You don't trade players like that because he is worth something now. You need players like that on EL deals to have a good team. Trading Read for the reasons you state would be an epic mistake.

I don't think he has high trade value either. He is old for a rookie and you aren't getting P Kane for him.

The only reasons you would trade Read is if you get a huge return or you know he is going to tank next year (which is impossible). So I agree, you keep onto him. His return on investment is only comparable to a few on the team (Couts, G, Talbot, Simmonds at times).
Too much coffee? Impossible. *Takes a sip of Joe. |

He certainly would have trade value. But I believe that his value in keeping him outweighs his value in a trade.

I get what you are saying, but Detroit isn't getting worse. It can't - it's done. The downtown area is burned out. Besides, with the type of money the players are making and the area that they'll be buying a home... They don't have to worry about bad parts getting close - unless their is a zombie apocalypse. And, with the type of money these guys make - they could live in Canadian - Windsor.
ps. I think it's funny that most Flyers don't live in Philly or even PA... most live in NJ. - leon neon
I live just south of Detroit, work just north of Detroit.
I love this area.
The suburbs are great.
Downtown has gotten great in the last 10 years or so.
The only bad thing about Detroit is that in terms of square miles, it's HUGE.
The residential areas of the actual city of Detroit have gotten into this bad cycle where people move out as soon as they can, so the only people left are people who can't afford to move.
The Red Wings have a new arena coming, probably right next to Comerica Park and Ford Field. And I'm pretty sure they practice in Troy, a really nice city.
Stay in the suburbs and downtown, and you'll never experience the bad. |

Technically there is a difference between Cap hit and Cap charge. But Bill's intended point is correct in taking on Gonchar mid Season at the deadline.

How much do you have to pay for the gun turret and gunner? 'Cause that would eat into my monthly budget. |
