Unless that was reported on FAN 590, it holds no water.

What are they trading to move up in the draft?
- MJL

Are you asking me to come up with trade senerios? Just have to be a bit tricky...

So Tampa has 2 picks this year. Maybe you can get thier 10th overall pick for Bobrovsky, Bourdon, and Flyers 2013 first rounder.

Capitals and Buffalo also have 2 picks... at 11 and 12. Maybe you can trade the Flyers 20th overall and panthers 2nd rounder in 2013. And if that doesnt work, maybe you can get the Caps send first round pick at 16 if the right player is there for the 20th pick and like a 3rd or 4th rounder....

8-mile. Need I say more? As far as cities are concerned... IMO Detroit is a dump. Makes Philly look like El Dorado.

This has nothing to do with hockey town or not. But IMO if I am going to live in a big city, it would be one like LA, NY, Philly, or Washington.... Not Detroit.

- RooNosHockey

I've never been to Detroit, have you? I don't think the Millionaire players that play for Detroit are living in a dump.

Provided that verbiage remains the same in the new CBA, yes.
- Flyskippy

I don't see that changing. The only thing that could really change it is if there is Bonus cushion available this upcoming Season.

The Sabres have every intent in trading our 2 1st rounders to move up. Strong rumor we go to #4 with the Isles if Mikael Grigorenko is still there. Im assuming Roy, Stafford, Sekera, Gerbe could be included in some sort of package with the 2 1sts

I don't see the Flyers being able to obtain a top 10 pick in the draft for a backup Goalie, and decent but unproven NHL depth defenseman, and a late first round pick. Nor do I see the other scenarios you offered as being likely. You'll have pay a much higher price to move up to the top 10 then that.

I think he's just saying a city like Ny or Philly has more to offer than Detroit, which I can't see how there is anything wrong with that. I mean Detroit is supposedly borrowing something like over 100 million dollars to shut some of their street lights off so they save 10 million a year. There's crazy stuff with every city/local government but that place is not a far cry from the Robocop movies from what I've been hearing so yea it might be deterring players but that's just a hunch.

Hmm. Interesting. Another center. Add Cousins to the list and you can almost expect the Flyers to trade one of these guys if either Johnson or Cousins pans out like a Read or Couts this year...

Do you think that the street light issue is going to matter to a player in where he wants to play? I don't. Ever spent some time in N Philly, or most of Philly for that matter? It's no picnic. My point is that Detroit is one of the top Hockey Cities, with a great Organization in place. And which I'm sure there are areas in the Detroit subburbs that is a good place to live and to raise a family.

Meh, it's that time of year for these silly rumors. They get thrown out there to try to drive up or down a player's price.

I really think the Flyers should go after Garrison instead of a big name free agent. It wouldnt cost a (frank) ton and would get us another great defender to go with what the Flyers have.
- bigmookalookie

I think the reality is that the Flyers will not make a major move, much as you suggested.

I don't know if they will or won't make a major move. But I have no doubt that they will be trying to make a major move.

Detroit has some of the most beautiful suburbs in the country. I highly doubt that it's a deterrent.

Besides, I'd live in the Prudential Center parking lot if it gave me the best chance at getting my name on the Cup.

Can they waive Timmonen in the offseason to their AHL club and get his salary off the cap number during the summer, then bring him back up when the season starts when they LTIR Pronger, just to free up that space over the summer?
- aosplayo

There is no such thing as demoting a player to the AHL during the Off Season. Regular Season playing waivers end when the teams playing Season ends, and don't begin again until 12 days before the start of the next Season.

I actually have spent some time in North Philly but to my understanding it's only a fraction of what is Detroit. There probably are great suburban areas in and around Detroit but personally I'd rather live as far away as possible from a city that is basically a warzone. That's just me and I don't think its a stretch of an imagination to think a player would feel the same way.

It also has some fantastic outdoor activities if your into that in the area. Breathtakingly beautiful places such as Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and Lake St Clair. As well as access to Canada.

with the depth on defense... nor do i. The 25th pick in this years draft might be as good as a 15th pick in other years.

The only difference is that the bad places are worse than the good... But I think it is naive to think that a player wouldnt go to one of the most storied franchises in NHL history because it has some nasty ghettos.

Look at the Flyers for example... most have lived in suburban areas in south jersey. Others in Old City... Its not like they are stuck in West Philly or North Philly.

A poll that was done this year...

What team would you most like to play on?
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/...you-most-like-to-play-on/

oddly enough, out of the 318 players who responded, the Red Wings had the highest %.
