And there are some good neighborhoods bordering Chester that are fine places to live. Pay me what I'm looking for, on an Organization that is know for excellence and winning. And I'll find a place to live. That area of upper Michigan is a beautiful area to live. - MJL
I am with MJL on this. I just dont think that the pedestrian concerns of ordinary folk play much into an NHLers decision on a city. They are in the .0001% of salaries and can buy wherever they want and have their wife and kids safe and going to any private school. Frankly, i would rather play for a Detriot then an otherwise beautiful Phoenix with a fan base of 10,000 total. |

So you don't think Suter is going to rip the boards off the house in a fixer upper, evict the squatters, and move the family into the Hood in the City of Detroit? - MJL
I'm 99.99% he ends up in one of the nicest parts of Michigan. He wont live in a crapper thats for sure. |

Detroit is a city that is more and more bad everyday, it's not like every other city, the place is a borderline warzone. Look at Camden, that's where detroit is headed and in a hurry and there is almost NO good areas to live in there unless you build a bunker. - JoeRussomanno
Your saying that there aren't any good areas to live in in the Detroit area? Where are Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, etc living? All multi millionaires? |

Camden is a great example. If the Joe were in Camden and the Red Wings played in that hell hole, and I were a Suter, in once second, id take my 7M, live in Haddonfield and whistle on my way to the bank every day while breaking my @ss to win a cup on the ice. |

there are good areas sure, but I'm just saying there are people that would rather not tip toe around on their commute to work and have to worry that if they make a wrong turn they won't come alive. |

I understand that... but ... and as you just mentioned.. Camden is just like it, albeit smaller.
Soo.. Philly (highest murder per capita) Chester and Camden (near the top in crime per capita) are all with in a 15mile radius. Nobody will ever sign with us again! |

All I'm stating is people have different preferences, I don't know why this is such a hard concept to grasp. as for Haddonfield I don't see a whole lot of Flyers living there, it's not like Philly is on the other side of an ocean. |

Philadelphia is closing out another year with homicides up again. On a per-capita measurement, the city has the highest murder rate among big U.S. cities."
"Among the ten largest cities, Philadelphia’s murder rate was 20.7 per 100,000. The next closest is Chicago, at 15.7, according to Commissioner Ramsey, who was Chicago’s top cop, before he came here from Washington DC."

sounds like a dump
Bloomfield Hills is a city in Oakland County of the U.S. state of Michigan, 20.2 miles (32.5 km) northwest of downtown Detroit.[4] As of the 2010 census, the city population was 3,869.[5] Bloomfield Hills consistently ranks as one of the top five wealthiest cities in the United States with population between 2,500 to 9,999 — it currently is listed at the number four position and in 1990 it was ranked number two,[6] and has the highest income of any city outside of California, Florida or Virginia. The median income for a family is over $200,000. In 2000, 49% of residential property in Bloomfield Hills had a value of over $1,000,000.[7]

If Suter is that concerned then just stay in Nashville. I'm sure he has a very nice home there. Take less money and live where your family has been for awhile now. |

They frequently use the dilapidated buildings as examples of how structures decay in the history channel series "Life After People". Its quite fascinating. |

See I'm not even talking about a specific player i'm speaking generally and believe it or not, different people have different preferences and I could see a warzone like Detroit being an area a player/person would not want to live in. |

Unfortunately I must be. I know how terrible Detroit is, but I dont think it has any bearing on whether or not ppl would play for the wings. Eastern Market and West Village section (not far from the Joe) arent bad areas.. |

I agree. People are different. I'm thinking from an NHL players point of view. Your pretty much making good money so its not like you cant live in a great part of Michigan while playing for the Detroit Red Wings. |

There are 30 teams in the NHL that would want Suter, so he has a lot of options. There are probally 10 teams that would all be willing to spend what Detroit will, including the team he is already with, that look to be a winning team, and a family that is already settled down.
Like I said, if I were Suter, Money and contract arent going to be the selling points to an orginization, as there are many that will give him what he wants. Its going to be living quality, and winning chances that make the final decisions.
And for those that say that the city's economy has no impact on the players... I will remind you that Joe Louis Arena was built in 1988... If they cant aford to keep lights on at night, how can they afford to build a new arena when the time comes....
And as for winning. One of the biggest reasons Detroit won so much recently is because of a guy that is retiring, and the rest of the good players are on the wrong side of 30. For someone that is going to be signing a LONG term deal, these considerations have to be in the decision.
Again I cant speak for Suter, but I would not want to sign in Detroit. |

On top of it.. the history also matters. Like I posted earlier.. Detroit Red Wings was the #1 team most players (328 polled) wanted to play on if they could. |
