Keep the entire staff, and lead the NHL in lost man games!

Keep everyone forever! When McCrossin dies, don't replace him, simply put an earn with his ashes on the bench.

please don't kill me for suggesting this, but would anyone see bob and read for the 2nd pick (columbus) as a good trade for both sides?

I think it is really hard to judge a team based on a playoff run like this. They have had very good health while teams they played have not( no Daniel Sedin, no Pieterangelo). They also had favorable match ups : Vancouver with no Daniel Sedin after a long cup run, a new to the playoffs St Louis team, and offenseless Phoenix. I know they were the higher seeds but I would take Detroit and Chicago over any of them. Also many of their stars have been dogged by poor work ethic claims (Carter, Richards, Doughty, Penner). How driven will they be after the cup win? Lastly, Jon Quick has been otherworldly this year, but was also terrible the previous two years in the playoffs. Lombardi is also terrible at picking talent in the first round, which in todays NHL will sink your team. I thinks it's one and done with this group but just my opinion.
- psuhockey

Ok so after reading this I felt compelled to look up his first round picks

97 - Marleau, 98 Stuart, 99 Jillson, 01 Goc, 02 Mike Morris, 06 Bernier, 07 Hickey, 08 Dougherty and Teubert, 09 Schenn, 10 Forbort

That MJL guy disagrees with me (his right for sure), but I think Read has very little trade value. He is 25 I believe and effectively a 3rd line player. I think Bob is worth a 3rd and Read a 3rd and combined you might get a second or very late first.

I think we got Grossmann for a 3rd round pick - much more valuable than Read IMO.

That being said, MJL will disagree, Joe will call me not da man (I am), and someone else will call me satanic.

I think to get a top 5 pick it would require: JVR or Coburn and maybe a pick.

- Daman

The kid plays a two-way game and scored over twenty goals, that's not what I'd describe as 'effectively a third liner'. Trade value is one thing, and I agree Columbus would be stupid to make that trade, but I don't think you're giving Read a fair assessment with that description.

I do, however, appreciate your healthy sense of self esteem, Mr. Da Man. No sarcasm.

I can't vote yet, I don't have enough info. I just want a back up goalie whose cap hit is under 1mm. so if the bonus cushion is in the cba keep bob, if not trade him for what he's worth and sign a guy like biron for under a mil.
- flyerscup2011

Not an option. They won't know if there is a bonus cushion until September at the earliest. That decision on a backup will have to be made long before then.

I don't think patience is one of Holmger's virtues.

It may not be. But it's definitely not a virtue of Ed Snider's

good point

plus, i find the "Lombardi has been patient and calculating and it's finally paying off" narrative humorous. they're playing within a good system and riding on the coattails of an extremely hot goaltender.

- bradleyc4

The system is about the Coach, not the GM. And couldn't the GM have jumped the gun and dealt Quick away, and went with the hot prospect in Bernier? So I don't know what's so humorous about it. Because Lombardi took a lot of heat from his fanbase in not being real aggressive in making moves. He was patient and made the right moves. And of course the players still have to get it done on the ice.

He made some shrewd moves, finally, but only because he was too patient for too long.
- bradleyc4

I disagree. He made the shrewd moves because he was patient enough to wait for them to materialize.

No question. Every player on the Kings roster is playing their role to a T.
- PLindbergh31

And a large part of that has been the moves by the GM, to put the players in the right role.

No sarcasm? Too bad - I'm just doing it to be funny (but still in an obnoxious sort of way). So in essence, I am being sarcastic.

I like Read and he did score 20 goals and does have a 2 way game. But in my defense, he did play a lot on the 3rd line.

Maybe this kid is the next Patrick Sharp and I will be wrong. But the value that the original poster suggested (low cap hit) is the reason he won't be traded.

If you really want to analyze this, provide a winger on a playoff team that is worse than Read and plays on the top 2 lines.

Matt Read would be an improvement on the Wing on the top 2 lines for Phoenix, Ottawa, and Florida. All playoff teams.

And is equal to the some of the 2nd line Wingers on Chicago and Washington.
