Matt Read would be an improvement on the Wing on the top 2 lines for Phoenix, Ottawa, and Florida. All playoff teams. - MJL
Read's a nice role player for this team and his cap hit is a steal. Have to have some of those players on your roster. Read also can play multiple positions and is good at both ends of the ice. |

Not an option. They won't know if there is a bonus cushion until September at the earliest. That decision on a backup will have to be made long before then. - MJL
i'm sure the team is more in the know than i am and has a much better idea as to whether or not the bonus cushion will be there. if it's a 75% or better chance for the bonus cushion, i keep bob. otherwise, trade him and see what biron will take. is that a better response? |

The team really doesn't know any more about the upcoming CBA then you or I do.

they have to know something i don't. i mean they rub elbows with all parties involved. i can't believe that i'm as informed as holmer in this case. |

Hard to be that informed on something that hasn't happened yet. I'm sure Snider is aware of what the League wants to accomplish with the new CBA. But it is a negotiation between two parties.

right and they could deduce the likelihood of a bonus cushion from this. it would be a calculated risk either way, but they have some idea. i only know what i read here, on other hockey sites and twitter. i like bob a lot, but he's as pigeon-holed as bartulis here. |

In terms of the backup goalie position, I think the Flyers are going to do what they feel is best for the team. And I don't think whether or not there is going to be a bonus cushion is going to be a factor in that decision. |

And is equal to the some of the 2nd line Wingers on Chicago and Washington. - MJL
Unless you have more teams, it seems that Read is a 3rd liner on most playoff teams. But I don't want to put words in your mouth. |

I would be shocked if both sides don't have a pretty good idea as to what each is coming to the table with. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Silly Season Musings: Backup Goalie Bingo - bmeltzer
It might be too early to tell if Bobrovsky can be an effective NHL backup, but the thing is, the Flyers have made a massive commitment to a guy to be their starter, and he plays better when he gets a load of work. That limits Bob's ability to see consistent time and truly develop.
Personally, I don't mind if he comes back as the back-up, but I'd rather see a veteran like Biron brought in, cheaply. He can provide solid play, will bring a good attitude and will be adequate if there's an injury. |

Put his name quietly on the market, see if you get an offer you like. They can always say no. |
