If this rumor about Yandle and Staal are true, then the Flyers should definately be looking into this also, right? Cant just let Pit sweep in and take away someone that would fill one of your needs.... |

Quite a while ago, OB and I experimented with trying to keep things "on topic" here but the consensus of the posters was that the group preferred more free-flowing conversation. Ironically, or perhaps expectedly, some of the more vocal proponents of allowing for nothing to be off topic here are now complaining about these threads not being on topic.
Just thought I'd check in and ask if you all still want the threads to be more free flowing and allowing for latitude in topics as long as things don't get overheated/obscene? - bodiva88
If something is being discussed that I don't care to take part in I generally just don't partake. I've never seen anyone get ostracized/ignored for bringing up an issue hockey related.
As a rule of thumb I try to stick to hockey but am often guilty of getting off topic out of just being sociable. Also with the offseason almost upon us I would imagine it's gonna be hard to stay on topic.
SO I'd be a vote for variety so long as it isn't offensive to others but if the topic variety was strictly enforced or decided upon I would make an effort to adhere. |

Who do we have that can match the Pens offer? And I'll beleive that deal when it happens. |

I think it's a lot more then just that. It's also lessened by a team that plays well in it's own end and has a neutralzone checking presence. And then plays well as a 5 man unit on the puck, and supports each other. Short crisp passes as a 5 man unit in the defensive end to break out. Along with winning the puck battles. It all starts with the team defense. It is the catalyst for it all. - MJL

A player does not have to make an effort to return in some capacity to stay on LTIR. That is a misconception. How can a player who isn't cleared for Hockey activities medically, make an effort to return? If Pronger retires, he doesn't get paid. - MJL
But he stays on the cap correct?

Yes, but you get an exemption to go over the Upper Limit to replace him if replacing him forces you over it. But only in the amount of his Cap hit. |

Right. My initial comment was that if their was an amnesty rule they would use it on Pronger instead of Bryz. Do you agree? |

latitude is good. we can always ignore the posts that cover areas that don't interest us or we can attempt to start our own relevant discussions. |

Beat me to it Joe! - MJL
the other thing is out of the guys that actually are available namely Luongo, I don't see how those players wouldn't fall under massive criticism either. We ostracized Checmanek when he gave up 4 goals in 5 games to the Senators!
People need to just realize that A. Bryzgalov wasn't the centerpiece of reasons for why the Flyers went out to the Devils as opposed to last season when our goaltending was shaky at best through two series.
B. The guys numbers are as good as anyone that has played here more than 35 games since Robert Esche.
C. Despite an up and down season, his best play came when it mattered most (Second half of the season) Jak has done an excellent job of highlighting that
D. He set a franchise record for shutouts on a team that is offensively oriented, that says a lot right there.
E. His personality is trivial and as a fanbase we need to stop letting our own insecurities be affected by the Liam Hughes and Michael Barkaans of the world and their jokes about Bryzgalov. |

I don't know what they would do. But I would use it on Pronger if it was available. But I don't think there is going to be an amnesty rule. |

Im not sure how LTIR works, but I thought you had to make an effort to return in some capacity to stay on it? If Pronger wants to retire and not deal with any of that, why wouldn't the team do it? - Jimmygrazz
No. He just has to have a doctor's note that he is unable to play. And if the NHL feels like that may be fudged, they have a right to have a second opinion. There is no need for someone to attempt to come back. (Think about it, you wouldn't say a paralyzed player wasn't eligible for LTIR, would you?) |

Just remember, in the late 90s a single vote determined a state legislature race in Adams county that determined the majority in the state legislature. Eep! |

The truth is that we don't. Schenn would be the start to that deal. Yandle is a top talent but I am fully in support of a right handed D man. Is it vital? No. But it is a serious part to our solution. Offensive (still responsible in their own end) R handed D.
Hard to come by but why not shot for the moon? |
