Briere maybe, timonen will likely be out for a while. Talbot doesn't have half the experience Jagr has. Giroux still needs a guy like Jagr to look up. If Pronger was healthy I'd say it's a different story. - funmaster18
Talbot has been through a lot so far in his career. I seem to remember being confronted with the fact by other posters in here when I brought up that Briere is overpaid how much of leader he is. I don't know how any of us can determine that Giroux needs someone to look up to. |

I think the difference between Jagr and these guys is that Jagr is a living legend. He's arguably the greatest European born ever to play the game. Players look up to him partly because of this. |

My agenda is objective decision making when it comes to retaining and adding players to this hockey team. Jagr showed signs of aging in the last third of the season. He brought positives no doubt but I don't know that because he's a good mentor in the room that i don't try to upgrade over what he actually did on the ice. Due to his age I don't foresee him getting better and the fact that I have the opportunity to go in another direction is why I would be prone to utilize said opportunity. - JoeRussomanno
It is not Objective if you are basing your analysis on opinion. The only way to objectively assess how Jagr will perform is to base it off what he has done recently, not on how other players his age have responded.
And IMO if Jagr repeats exactly what he did last season, its still a good signing. |

Woah, time out, I don't want to be stepping on Marvel's toes when it comes to copyrights. I'll have to find a new numeric expression of approval. |

What cap hit is everyone willing to bring Jagr back at for one year? |

What about them? Did teams opt to go in other directions when they were 40 and impending free agents? - JoeRussomanno
Anaheim, Tampa, and Boston didn't. Most of those players were re-signed at least once. |

You may not think its necessary and that's fine. I said before I'm on the fence but think its worth it based on his leadership. The flyers obviously think very highly of him, which is likely due to intangibles that we are not privy to. |

okay and what did he do recently? he struggled to score in a playoff series where goals were given away like clothes at salvation army soup kitchen. Also he was totally inept in the NJ series. Being that he's going to be 41 next year I don't see much hope for him improving. |

i'm with you, i'd pull the plug on the jagr experiment. i wish we could keep him around the team, but he not play for us, but that's completely unrealistic |

I disagree. I can't be soon enough. I am dying to find out. And when it does happen, I cant wait to theorize, critize and hypothize until the season starts.... muhahahhah. - RooNosHockey
Sound reasoning.

I agree his leadership is top notch but I'm not sure that is enough. At the end of the day I gotta have a guy that gets it done out there. Also I can't sit here and say how much guidance Claude Giroux needs, imo that's what the coaches are supposed to do. If we want to make a jagr a coach By all means if he;s willing GID Homer. Also I think there's a bit of a logjam up front and would rather roll the dice on a younger player. I really do like jagr I'm not bashing him for the shortcomings in the post season but I just can't see how he's going to be more than marginally better next year. |

Must have watched different games. I thought he was excellent in the first round.... Right until he got injured in game 6.
Like I said... I dont need him to improve... just give me what he, and his line mates, did this season... |

And what if there is a plan to move a few of these guys? Then you would be saying, "If you knew you were going to trade your depth, why wouldn't you have held onto Jagr?" |

One of the primary reasons I am not excited about sending offense out is because I am not confident we will see guys duplicating exact offensive stats.
Talbot, Hartnell, possibly G... if those guys dont have the same year, we will need other guys to rely on. Just a thought. |
