Must have watched different games. I thought he was excellent in the first round.... Right until he got injured in game 6.
Like I said... I dont need him to improve... just give me what he, and his line mates, did this season... - RooNosHockey
Jagr had 1 goal, 7assists and was a -5. What he gave us during the regular season was up to expectation, but going forward, we're still not a cup team and need to improve.
You don't improve by continually pumping 3 mill into aging players over 40 years old. It's nothing against older people either just that your body doesn't gain resiliency and reflexes as you age it loses it and imo Jagr seems right in line with that. Why tie up capspace when something much better can come along and in the meantime you have a plethora of talent waiting in the wings? |

And what if there is a plan to move a few of these guys? Then you would be saying, "If you knew you were going to trade your depth, why wouldn't you have held onto Jagr?" - RooNosHockey
Even if they move some there is still an abundance. You have guys on the phantoms that are probably NHL players in another organization. We will survive if we let Jagr walk. |

You have to have a good mix of vets and youth. I would say a good ratio would be 1 really old guy for every 2 really young guys...(average age guys are like neutrons, they have no charge) So we need Jagr to sit next to help Timonen and Shelly balance out the equasion... |

That is a problem and I think with this GM that trend should change after all it's a capworld and younger players are typically cheaper. |

Sure we will survive, but I dont think we will be better off for it. Jagr brings much more to the table then Ben Holmstom or Testuide or Zulnerczyk. You think Giroux is going to talk stratgies with them? You think other teams will respect them enough to draw double coverage and leave Hartnell or Giroux open? |

What double coverage did jagr consistently draw. If Giroux doesn't talk strategies with his teammates then the hell with him, that's bush league. Jagr Brings much more in terms of experience yes, but potential no, and we will never know exactly what we have in those guys unless we let them play. Furthermore players CONSTANTLY become available through the season, if his absence is such a problem then the Flyers can go out get another player. But if you keep him for another 2-3 million that's money you don't have for another free agent or trade that could give you as much leadership and more performance on the ice. |

I disagree with you there. You cant just go out and get someone that gel's with the team the way Jagr did, and contribute so much to Giroux and hartnell's career as Jagr did. And there is no reason to believe that he wont do the same. How often have you heard of whole teams lobbying for somone to be resigned? That is something you cant just "fill"
And Jagr drew double and even tripple teams many times. And when he wasnt carrying the puck he was getting open and out muscling guys with a lot more "potential". Can't win a cup on potential.

Oh..well. thanks for asking. 1 yr/ 2.5 M is the max. He is too injury prone to put more money into it. Sure tell him he can play the 1st line and PP if he wants (if Lavy agrees) and then let his play speak for itself next year. |

I would be okay with this, but I would also go up to 3.25ish... Really depends on the moves made before FA. |

this organization never had to rely on this much youth at one time. plus they never had this much talent level within some of their youth... |

well you know...
we can go round and round and i enjoy reading all the posts but really his number is #68
in any team you need to have chemistry and leadership. Jagr brings that...
if Selanne can do it, i think Jagr can as well... - phi1671
i was extremely pleased with how the Jagr situation worked out this year..minor injuries aside.
his work ethic and leadership did surprise me, i admit. he was great for this team. but after reading his blog.. and seeing him hint about how he feels he should be used.. and his desire to remain in the rhythem of the game so his old legs dont hurt give me slight cause for concern.
i really would hate to see an unhappy/frustrated Jagr in the room next year. might be time to move on, imo |
