Not a knock, just a comparison of playing styles. - NickTheKid87
Talbot was great for the Flyers. Watching him game in and game out, he's much better than I thought he was. It certainly isn't a coincidence he has a Cup clinching goal on his resume. He's that type of player. Hard worker, combined with underrated skill. |

he was a man possessed on that shift. i applaud that effort by him. - flyerscup2011
You have to, even if it is begrudgingly so. |

I dont have cap numbers or rules in front of me, but I would think if they wanted him signed, it would be done already. I think the Flyers are in the drivers seat knowing they can have him for cheap and are exploring all other options before committing to him. Purely blind speculation on my party. - funmaster18
that's a good possibility. this team is never afraid to make a splash |

That kind of team wins Cups. - NickTheKid87
I think the flyers are finally on the path I long term success with this core group they have. not that they havent had success in the past, but I think they are better suited to keep the core together and succeed with this group of players. Just need some tweaking. |

Now isn't the time to knock Carter. He's played great in the SCF. I have knocked him in the past, but he deserves a lot of credit for the way he has performed. I still despise his behavior when he was traded, pouting and basically forcing Columbus' hand, but on the ice he's gotten the job done. - PLindbergh31
We all know Carter isn't the best in the corners but I would describe his speed/wrist shot combo as elite (in those skills).
Clearly not an elite player in the league but he is the next leg down.
Nice addition by the Kings. So was Richards.
Still like Justin Williams. Never like the trade when we sent him away to Carolina.
With this series over, it will be interesting to see what happens in FA.
Good day to all and congrats to the Kings.

He's also coming off surgery, that may play into the equation as well. |

it was fun to watch, he beasted a defenseman made a great goal mouth pass dug for a loose puck then fired a no look shot that completely surprised the greatest goalie of all time. |

Wow, there hasn't been a sweep in the SCF since 1998. |

Ah, forgot about that. What was his injury? An abdominal or midsection related? |

well the core is basically forwards and #2-#4 defensemen, they need to add a true #1 defenseman or get 2 or 3 rock solid mid-level guys IMO. roll with that and championships will come |

I think abdominal injury. |

I don't think they have the space to sign him right now until the playoffs end and the new cap is announced. |

Flyers have said tagging space is the reason why they can't re-sign Carle before July 1. Remember -- the 2011-12 cap ceiling still applies until then. Kubina, Laperriere, Betts, Leighton, etc are all still on the books til July 1 and the cap space for Pronger is tagged for next season. |

The cap ($70.3 million) has been announced but it doesn't take effect until July 1. |

so they still count against our tagging space for next season?
let me re-phrase that. they still restrict the flyers from being able to sign players due to tagging space related reasons? |

The CBA expires Sept 14th I believe, and camps are scheduled to open a few days later. I think there are some rocky times upcoming. This Donald Fehr jagoff had a hand in the baseball strike in 94, I hate the fact that he is involved in the NHL now. |

That makes sense. I thought that figure was what is being estimated not the actual figure. I didnt know that was official now, thanks. |

I've said this before: they haven't had a player of Claude Giroux's caliber since Bobby Clarke (except for maybe Lindros but I might give the edge to G because he doesn't have the baggage Lindros did). Add a 19 and a 20 year old into the mix with Coots and Schenn and they have the best core since Clarke and Barber.
Look at some of the guys the have had over the past years: they lost in the 2008 ECF with Marty Biron in net with a forward core of Carts/Richie/Danny, the 2004 ECF to Tampa with Robert Esche in net and a core of Primeau/Roenick/Gags, and we all know about the improbable run in 2010 with the Boucher/Leighton combo. Now we have a superstar player plus talented young guys and a proven goalie in Bryzgalov. |

No, because they are not under contract for next season. But they are still officially on the books until next season.
But the Flyers have said they have maxed out their tagging space for next season, which includes the new contracts for JVR, Coburn and Grossmann and most also carry the Pronger contract on their cap figure.
