No but he has forced himself to have to trade players that he might of liked.
Ex: Versteeg - stveshdy
i don't think Versteeg was a good fit with the team....

i think the history of drafting goaltenders early--in and of itself--would be enough to make me think that neither goalie is the best player available at 20. |

Nice.
After I write a note on my hand I laminate it so it doesn't smear or run.

Resigning Jagr, Voracek, and Carle leaves them pretty short handed in the summer to do anything.
I rather keep JvR than signing Jagr. Why trade JvR? I rather add another defenseman for 3.5-4M that is needed then sign Jagr. Thats just my opinion. - stveshdy
What defenseman do you add for that $3.5-4mm? Not that there aren't guys out there in that range that wouldn't help. Guys like Bryan Allen, Barrett Jackman, Brad Stuart might fall in that cash range. They could also spend less on a guy like Hal Gill or Brett Clark as a stop gap.
Hardly game changing types. If they trade JvR, it won't be for a Bryan Allen or Jackman. It would be for a top pairing guy.

Versteeg wasn't necessarily a cap trade. They felt Read could provide what they expected from him at a much smaller cap hit. |

Hmm, perhaps that advice would've come in useful earlier, now I'm caught deciphering what this coffee smudge is I've scheduled for 11:30. |

The Flyers may just upgrade their 5-6th guys on defense. Wait until next season and make a run at Weber if available. They will need a player like JvR to complete a deal like that imo (they could trade Schenn).
Sometimes its not about the name (as I've stated before) but more about how the player fits into your system. So they could also trade for a younger player who is ready to play without giving up the farm. |

Well thats your opinion. In my mind he was traded to free up cap space. The Flyers were looking to add more space at the current time imo.
The Flyers didnt even know if Read would make the roster heading into camp. |

seems to me Jagr is saying he doesn't care about the money itself as much as what the money represents. The financial commitment a team shows you is a reflection of your importance to the team. The more you mean to the team the more money you get paid and he wants to be important to the team. - Dkos

Yeah, I was tired of dealing with that issue.
The laminate burns the first few times you do it but after a while you lose feeling in your hand and don't feel it anymore.
I recommend it!

All true. So should they spend $3-4mm on a 5th defnseman? Or see if kids like Bourdon or Gustafsson can handle it for the first month or so, then use the LTIR money from Pronger to swing a deal and get a player that fits?
I'm sure that, like with the Carter and Richards moves, the Flyers have an idea of what they're going to do before the rest of us. There were rumors of the Carter deal, but not many about Richards. There was very little noise about Pronger prior to it going down.
If they have already decided to not go hard into the weak UFA market, then they probably already have a trade they're working on, and will allow them to fit the players they're re-signing in. |

Versteeg was the only player at that time who could be traded because mostly all other players had NTC-NMC. They did get back some picks for Versteeg but didnt they just trade some of those away to acquire Grossmann/Kubina? |

It could well have been. But at the same time, after the trades of Carter and Richards, and adding Jagr as a free agent, plus the possibility that Read and Sestito would make the team, Versteeg was a luxury they didn't need to pay $3mm.
They didn't make any significant FA additions after the trade of Versteeg. They had already signed Jagr and Talbot at that point, so it wasn't a dire need to move Versteeg. |

They did trade picks this year, but that doesn't influence it in my mind. I think the Flyers just felt Kris didn't fit their 'youth movement' plans (and maybe just weren't impressed by him), and decided to recover some of the value spent on him. Getting some cap space, as well as opening that top six forward spot, was part of it as well. |

They had also made most of their FA signings when Versteeg was dealt. It's not impossible that cap room played a role, in fact I'm sure it did. They felt that they could pay Simmonds, Voracek, Read, Talbot and Jagr less to do what Versteeg did |

I just have my concerns with age, money, injuries, and his role.
Will see what happens. I'm not totally against resigning him but I'm not 100% behind it either right now. |

It matters because by trading Versteeg and getting those picks allowed them to acquire two defenseman during the year.
I was just stating that they traded for Versteeg but they did use those picks to get other players.
Did help to have Pronger on LTIR also. |
