I just have my concerns with age, money, injuries, and his role.
Will see what happens. I'm not totally against resigning him but I'm not 100% behind it either right now. - stveshdy
I have them, too. I'm also not 100% behind it. But it's not going to make or break things. It's a one year deal, so the risk is minimal. |

It matters because by trading Versteeg and getting those picks allowed them to acquire two defenseman during the year.
I was just stating that they traded for Versteeg but they did use those picks to get other players. - stveshdy
Well, trading the picks at the next TDL doesn't have much to do with clearing cap room.
Getting Voracek and Simmonds in the Richards and Carter trades, then adding Read, Jagr and Talbot as FA's had more to do with Versteeg getting dealt than a pressing need for cap room. |

After adding all those pieces someone had to be moved. Versteeg was that guy and he cleared space off the cap but also allowed them to acquire some of those picks back that they traded to get him. |

Agreed. I think this team learned from this past season. They have a lot of young players who will continue to get better. I think its more of playing team defense and getting better goaltending. The sky's the limit if they can improve in those areas and I believe they will. |

Exactly. They got those pieces to replace Versteeg, which tells me that trading him was a fait accompli. They decided to replace him, got the players to do it locked up and then moved him because he was no longer needed.
They could have simply decided to keep Versteeg, rather than add those other pieces, which means if it was a cap move, it was after the fact and not a move made simply to free up cap space-but to get assets for a guy whose role had been filled by others. |

I agree.
Well I dont think they actually thought they were going to land Jagr. When they did they had to move Versteeg and clear space.
Versteeg was used to free up space in the end. |

It's not as if Holmgren decided on July 1st to sign Jagr. There was prior contact, os they had to have a plan in place for if he did sign.
Versteeg's spot on the roster was replaced. It wasn't like being forced to waive Metropolit and Vaananen, or having to trade Upshall to fit Giroux. |

Eh. Rivalries renew every season imo. I thought yesterday we all did a good job of having fun with each other without getting worked up. I actually had fun with funmaster.... guess there is a first time for everything. Now only if we can get that comic book jerk to join the dark side |

Who would you rather have Versteeg at $3M or Jagr at $3.3?
I honestly believe Versteeg got a raw deal here. They didn't even give him a chance. However, he was the only player they could trade that could clear space and get back picks. |

Honestly Jagr did more for this team then Versteeg could ever do, so I'm glad they made the trade. |

Thats what I'm asking. So your happy with Jagr. The Flyers did the right thing by signing Jagr and trading Versteeg to get picks and cap space. |
