Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you must be the smart one around here!... Good point!
In that's the case, the Leafs have a few D that can QB a PP:
- Phaneuf
- Gardiner
- Liles
And to a lesser extent and likely #2 PP unite:
- Gunnarson
- Franson - As_I_See_It
We dont want anyone from the leafs, and you said you dont want JVR... Why are you still here? |

Parise is a pipe dream. He's not signing with the Flyers, nor should the Flyers be interested in him. He's a fantastic player, but there are more pressing needs. - PLindbergh31
I like Parise but I don't know if I would spend $7M+ a year on him (cap hit wise). However, teams overpay during UFA so I expect him to land a monster contract. It's not often a big fish hits the market. |

... But only if you can dump a fragile injury prone winger who is signed until 2017-2018 and carries a cap hit of $4.25M, right? - As_I_See_It
That'd be wonderful analysis if he were fragile and injury prone. |

As for the whole player needing to have his surgery and be 100% before being traded... I guess Versteeg was an exception last offseason?
Lets be serious. Maybe JvR had some sort of personal thing planned.. a wedding he is in maybe, or planning to get engaged if he is dating someone... hell maybe even a vacation... I would think that he might wanna hold off his surgery so that he would be able to walk during that...
Or maybe its more of what Bill is saying..
Or maybe its a matter of him trying to rehab it.
Or maybe its a matter of him rehabbing a Upper body injury prior to going on crutches. A typical recovery time from labral repair can range from 6-12 weeks.. Usually its 7-9. Then there are the rare 4-5 weekers, or 12+ guys.. Id say JvR would be a 6-8 week deal. That would give him plenty of time to be ready for the start of the season.

Yes, there are more pressing needs, but I belive the interest in Parise is to replace whatever offense we lose trading for that #1 d-man. |

Parise will get close to that. And it will be either from NJ, or Detroit. |

You want the Flyers to pursue Parise. What do you think that's going to cost? - MJL
More than $7M is my guess. |

Other than Weber what # 1 dman is available? And we don't even know Weber is available for sure.
There isn't enough cap space to take on a # 1 dman, and sign Parise. And once again signing Parise, and landing a # 1 dman via trade, means shipping a bunch of parts out of here. That means the Flyers are basically remaking their team again. It's very unlikely imo. |

I could see the Wild being involved. Parise grew up in Minnesota and his dad played for the North Stars for quite awhile. |

He will get a bunch of offers I'm sure, but it's unlikely he signs anywhere but Detroit, or NJ. |

Why do people keep thinking Parise is going to get 7+ million on a cap hit? Kovalchuk's cap hit isn't even 7 million. B.Richard's cap hit isn't 7 million. Parise will sign a deal that will pay him long term, which likely means the team will be able to throw in 3 years or so at minimal dollars to lower that cap hit. And because he is still young, if he retires it wont count against the cap. (as it's written now) I could see Parise signing for somewhere near Briere's cap hit... 6.5 maybe. It will be lower then people think. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Silly Season Musings: JVR and Nash - bmeltzer
Nice summary Bill
I haven't read Eskikn's rumor, so I don't know all of the deatials.
ON the JvR surgery delay. Surgical procedures get delayed all the time for reasons that cannot be controlled. If JVR was running a Temp, they would bump the surgery. He had recurring issues with infection in his foot, that could have bumped the surgery. All legit and medical . OR, the Surgeon could have had a family obligation (they are people too)....
As for the "why look at Nash"? He would create the potential for a monster line with Giroux that for one season with Jagr would be simply scary...potentially. It would also allow for Hartnell to shift down to play on a line with Briere and possibly reignite DB. Again, this is all Possible and Potential.
I don't like chasing Nash with all the holes on the blueline...but that is just me. |

Cause money changes each year. The cap goes up and the asking price of UFA's goes up. Maybe a team does sign him long term for a lower cap hit but usually a player with his skills is going to command a huge contract. |

It's possible that he'll get a long term deal that will lower his cap hit, but he's also the biggest prize in a weak UFA market, the team he's captain of made the SCF, He lacks the baggage Kovalchuk carries(unfairly, IMO) and you have teams like Detroit sitting there with $25mm in cap room next year. |

Homer has shown that he is more likely to do the unlikely.
As far as cap space, JVR and Meszaros in a deal would give you Weber's contract. Whoever else is in the deal, plus the extra cap space you get this year Could be Parise. I'm not saying it's likely to happen, but it is a logical possibility for Homer. |

If the Flyers wanted Luke Schenn, they would have had him last year.
He's never lead the league in hits, BTW. Last year he was 7th, 104 behind league leader Matt Martin of th Islanders.Schenn is a good, very solid young defenseman. However, with Meszaros, Coburn and Grossmann already on board, not sure I see a need for another defense first defenseman. He is more physical than those three, but as far as blocked shots go, Schenn would have been 5th on the Flyers last year, behind Carle, Timonen, Grossmann and Coburn.
Let's not forget that JvR is also a pretty big kid (6'3" 200), who has a 20 goal season on his resume at age 22, and was on pace for 40 goals last year before getting sidetracked by injuries.
Oh, and that injury prone stuff? That's bullpoop. JvR missed 7 games in his rookie year and 3 in his second year before last year. - Jsaquella
Sorry, my mistake. Schenn's only lead all defencemen in hits for the past two seasons.
Who cares how many games JVR played in his rookie and second year, the fact of the matter is that he's had a concussion, broken foot and now requires hip surgery. That's three decent injuries THIS SEASON. Sorry, but that would be considered "injury prone" among the majority of people. |

Well Richards and Carter being traded an hour apart, means anything is possible. I just find it hard to fathom this franchise is going to drastically change course again. Some tweaks are needed, not an entire makeover. |
