There's such a need for continuity and chemistry in this sport. The coaches spend the entire preseason and beginning of the year trying to get the team to buy into a style of play and to have it become second nature on the ice.
It's usually more counter-productive to try to change course mid-season, especially under the same coach. They had to roll with the system they worked on all year, boom or bust.
Changes can be implemented this preseason. - bradleyc4
Not asking for them to change the system. Asking to be more responsible in their own zone. How hard is it to demand your forwards to give support?
I understand what your saying though. |

No the defensive system was not built around Pronger. The Flyers play a basic defensive zone coverage and hybrid lock in the neutral zone. Components of defensive play that have been around forever. - MJL

The positioning of the forwards is part of the system. Asking them to stay back is changing it. |

So we're not demanding any forwards to come back? One way players? Theres other ways to adjust. Keeping a forward higher or Center above the circle without killing the system. |

I'll be the first to admit I cursed Carter for top shelfing one last night (well two if you want to count the redirect) thinking about that shot hitting Niemi in the face - nastyflyergirl
I cursed him after his OT winner...

I am....Whenever they play a team with a tight defensive system they look like they ran into a wall at 100mph |

You can make adjustments without killing your system. Teams make adjustments all the time to help out areas of need during the season. I dont get it. |

Perhaps he should stay out of it and let his hockey people make the decisions.

Changing the positioning of players is changing the system by definition. |

The key to Lavi's system is to send the 3 forwards rushing down ice once the defense touches the puck. Unfortunatley, strong forechecking teams, and teams the trap the nuertal zone really fudge with this system as they are either pestering the defense creating turn overs, or cloggin up the passing lanes... creating turn overs.
To change the system to compensate for this, would change the way the offense is played. I think it needs to be changed, but wont be. |

The failure to make adjustments, or execute adjustments is scary. The season series with the Rangers was the same song, as were games 2-5 in the Devils series. Not sure if this is a coaching issue, a personnel issue, or both. But hopefully it gets rectified in short order. |

I think its youth with a combination of the coach being a little hard headed. |

Got it. So no adjustments are allowed because it changes the system.

Considering it spans 2 seasons, and more then just the Rangers... i would say its a coaching issue. I think Lavi feels that his system will beat the other systems. I hope this year showed him that every system has a counter style. The team that can adjust thier styles will win a lot more games. |

Hopefully it is rectified because something needs to be done. Theres noway you can expect this team to contend for a cup if they cant play in their own end and are in the bottom 10 in GAA. |

The defense core and goaltender are pretty much seasoned veterans. I hear what you are saying though. I think the inability to ice any semblance of a healthy team also played a big part. |

If Lavy doesnt realise that he only has two good defenseman that can move the puck like his system demands then he should be fired. That third pairing had no one that could move the puck the way it was supposed to be moved. Thats where missing pronger hurts you the most...he could thread a pass between three players. God i miss him and im sure lavy does also.... |

Well you can, you just have to hope you don't play teams like Rangers, Devils, Boston, or LA on the way to the finals. There was a reason I was rooting for Ottawa, Washington and Florida to win thier first round match ups... Would have been so close to predicting the Flyers-LA finals... at least I was half right... |
