No no no... if you're Buffalo, you take the gamble and let all of your good assets leave.... Briere, etc.... because you don't want to pay them, then put yourself into a position where you have no choice but to pay another guy 7+ million.
Perhaps Grabovski is overpaid by .750 - 1.0M. Toronto can and did decide to afford it... they kept one of there own. Or the Leafs could have allowed him to go to free agency and sign someone like Leino for an overpayment of perhaps 2.0M ... look how well that worked out.
Its crappy contracts given to guys like Leino that lead to overpayment by teams. - BorjeFan4Ever
Wow buddy, don't blame a new ownership for sins of the past. And pretty sure overpaid contracts have been given out way before Leino by other teams, like Jay Mckee signing 4 years 16 million with St. Louis. |

What's your point? I didn't see any toronto fans say he wasn't overpaid. Last time I checked those players weren't available. It's not like they picked him over them - sabrebuzz8
He's trying to troll us by saying he is overpaid, even though it isn't any secret. Then list a bunch of players on entry level deals, and a bunch that signed there deals while been RFA. Not to mention the cap circumvention deals like Hossas. I really don't know what he wants. |

you should take a look at the big picture for once:
when were these players signed?
what was the salary cap when they were signed?
what position do they play?
are they a 2 way player or a sniper type?
how old was the player when they were signed, was it their first contract? was it there last?
Grabovski is better than every forward on Buffalo. - big_dion
I agree that I did not sit back and look at those previously mentioned pieces... and I was gonna say that you were right.. but the bolded part...
C'mon man... that is a little bit of just division rivalry trying to be funny..
EASILY Pominville and Vanek are better than Grabo.
and I think it is not homerish to say that Foligno and Ennis showed signs that they are gonna be big time players in the future. |

I'm gonna stop you right there..... In what blue bunny h3ll do you think you could trade a late 1st and a 2nd rounder in order to get back into the top 3 if not top 2 positions in the draft!!!!????
In that trade that I was commenting on.. you said you would trade Torontos: Phaneuf, Schenn, and 1st rounder to Philly for: JVR and Bobz. - JVince117
I assumed this was obvious.. I mean that we can trade our 2nd with our 5th overall to move up a few positions. |

Also, no that was not the trade. Our 1st rounder was not involved. |

Let me put it this way... and I will not include any soon RFAs or whatever..
Getzlaf, Perry, Hossa, Eriksson, Franzen, Holmstrom, Carter, Brown, Plekanec, Cole, Callahan, Michalek, Hartnell, Girous, Doan, Neal, Pavelski, Clowe, and Kesler would all still be on that list without me even looking up the rest.
They all deserve 2 fold what Grabo is paid. - JVince117
ok you need to stop this side stepping
name guys with grabo's point production who signed their last contract as UFA?
the RFA guys on your list will be getting very big pay raises very shortly, as in the next couple years.. which will make grabo's contract look cheaper.. take getzlaf for example (btw you are also listing wingers there) but back to getzlaf.. think he signs for anything less than 7 when his UFA payday comes? doubt it.
UFA contracts compared to RFA ones are notably higher in general |

Bolded players are soon to be UFAs and will sign for more than him most likely
Underlined are players on rookie contracts
Italicized are players worse than him
Bolded& Underlined are people who circumvented the cap
Was this a serious post? - mfreedman
Hossa soon to free agent. Yeah around the same time as Luongo. |

I agree that the market is VERY dry this off-season.. especially with Olli saying that he probably isn't going to leave Calgary. - JVince117
these are all the little things that make differences in contract value.. honestly.. i love grabo.. but he picked a damn fine year to be heading into UFA territory |

Really? I believe Vanek, Roy, Pommer have put up better numbers and are just as good or better a two way player than Grabo. Grabo is a solid player I think every team would want but get your head out of your ass when you evaluate. |

Im sorry, I was rushing to go through them so that I could get through it in time for it to be relevant. He was supposed to be bolded and underlined.
Thank you for missing the point of the post

Don't get me wrong.. i tihnk that hte Leafs did what they had to do... they had to sign the talent to come back but by force of how the UFA market was going to play out they would have lost.
Trust me.. I know the market dictated that contract... look at vanek's f'n hideous contract he has right now.
I wasn't going off of availability or whatever.. all i wanted to point out was that there is a very long list of players out there that are making less money than Grabo but are better then him hands down.
I will end it at that. |

It was a short point... haha
I am too lazy right now to actually go and do all the research of it.. but in the last few years of that major list I compiled I know there are guys that have signed new RFA or UFA contracts for less money than Grabo did.
Marian Hossa, Bobby Ryan, Loui Eriksson, Johan Franzen, Jeff Carter, Brian Gionta, Thomas Plekanec, Milan Milanec (I think), Scott Hartnell, James Neal, Jordan Staal, Ryan Clowe, Joe Pavelski
just to name a few....
Even Ruutu and Grabo have had VERY similiar stats.. and Ruutu signed for 750k less |
