Doughty is one of the better defenseman in this league, imo of course.

If it were my call, I wouldn't give up Giroux or Couturier. Every other player is negotiable. There is not a single player in the NHL that I would trade for "at all costs" but Weber is pretty close. Legitimate franchise defensemen are the hardest commodity to obtain.
The one reservation I have about a blockbuster deal for Weber is opening up other holes in the process. But those holes are easier ones to fill than a legitimate replacement for Pronger, who will be in his prime for several years to come.
Regarding Bouwmeester, no thanks on that cap hit. - bmeltzer
After Chara Boston has a few solid defenseman same with LA and Doughty. If the Flyers have to give up Jvr and Schenn along with picks I'm fine. Bill do you think an offer sheet is possible? Can't see Nashville matching say a 10 year 80 million offer. Again Chara and Doughty make almost as much, it's possible to build around that salary, of course other moves need to be made. |

Doughty proved he had is that good. I don't think we NEED a true #1, of course it would be great. But a Wideman or other #2-4 would work IMHO. |

Wideman is probably going to make $5M. Not sure I want him for that price. I would rather just keep Carle. |

Do you think he is in the same arena as a Pronger or a weber? Just curious, this is not a loaded question. |

I think in a few more years he will be. He is much younger and his skill set is off the charts. Watching him this past playoffs I think he is very close with those players. |

We will see what they do. Losing a few players for a legitimate number 1 is cool with me, but I don't want to trade the farm or give up good young players for a bouwmeester. |

I'm not giving up my young core unless Im getting Weber. Im not forcing the issue either. If hes available make an offer if not we build off of what we have. |

There is nothing I give up for Bouwmeester. There is no trade I make for that ridiculous cap hit.

He didn't insulate himself from his new organization. He took a few days to collect his thoughts. Nothing wrong with that. And it's the off season. He doesn't need to report anywhere. I put myself in his position and think about how I would of felt. It's so easy to criticize from afar! - MJL
He absolutley insulated himself. He "gathered his thoughts" to such an extent that the GM and several players had to go to Sea Isle to help him "gather" his thoughts and sell him into accepting that he was now part of the BlueJackets organization.
I completely understand that he was extremely emotional and distraught that he was no longer a Flyer and validate his right to feel as such. But with all that said, he has a duty to conduct himself in a professional manner, which he did not. In many peoples eyes, he has become a joke, ridiculed and lost much respect because of his action, regardless of the talent that he has. |

The devils nor the kings had a Pronger caliber defenseman and they did ok. Wouldn't want to break the bank for weber. If deal can be made within reason, then good. But if not, then I think well be fine going other routes. - funmaster18
The Kings have a World class puck moving 2 way defenseman in Doughty. He could go on to be the next Lidstrom. He's that good at a very young age. And they also have very good defensive defenseman such as Mitchell, Scuderi, and Greene. Mitchell is much better then Coburn and Grossmann. |

If Weber doesn't want to play in Nashville, why would he sign an Offer Sheet? |

I disagree that he didn't conduct himself in a professional manner. He took a few days to himself. And the GM and the players didn't have to go anywhere. They chose to. And none of us know the circumstances of how that visit came about.
Carter showed what kind of player he is, as did Richards. And proved so much of what was said about them, as being nonsense, in my opinion. |

Doughty is good. But he's not in the same class with Pronger, Webber, Charra. He may get there one day (although he lacks the size imo to be the same kind of physical force those guys are), but he's not there yet.
He's in that next tier down along with the likes of Suter, Keith, and many others.
All just my opinion of course, but that's how I see it.
EDIT: I realize you did not say Doughty was as good as Webber or Charra. Didn't mean to imply you did. |

It amazes me that you say that other can have their opinion, and I can't have mine. As long as it is brought, up, I will reply to it and voice my opinion. That is my right. If it's brought up, it becomes relevant. - MJL
There's a fine line between debating and being a richard. I think you are a very knowledgable poster, who I like to read sometimes. However, you can't DEAL with ANYONE who thinks differently than you. Don't you think if you had all the answers and were always right you'd have a career in the executive levels of hockey? You make it unbearable in here sometimes. And of course you can have your opinion, but you just disagree with every little post for what?? Just because?? And if your going to post that you don't always think you're right then stop acting like it and let people voice their opinions without every little thing being criticized. And I can't just read over your negativity because it disrupts all flow of the conversation. I'm sure I'm banned now for voicing frustrations AGAIN about the same poster. |

I'm really surprised that Columbus moved on from him so fast. They gave up Voracek and 1st round pick. Carter was injured more than he played for the Jackets. Not sure why they didn't give him a full season before deciding to move on. |
