What is so funny?
I understand the high cap hit, but the Flyers could definitely make it work. They have financial flexibility. |

The odds of JvR even being on the club next year are slim IMO. - LordStanley88
If you trade him now, his value won't be very high. He needs to play through mid-year. If he excels - keep him. If he continues to just do OK, trade him. I think last year was the same plan, only the trade was disrupted by injury.

His value will only plunder further if he struggles next year.

Weber is a top 5 player in the game, along with the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Giroux, and Stamkos. He's easily my preferred target. |

Not to mention, defense and not offense is the biggest development gap on the team. |

You have to understand that he has 90-100 pt potential playing next to a guy like Giroux.
Look at what he's done in Columbus with no supporting cast. He's the only guy on his team who defenses have to worry about, so they will often solely focus in on shutting him down. That wouldn't happen here, or elsewhere for that matter.
He's not as soft as JvR either. He throws his body around when he's going, and is a much better finisher. The fact that he's 6'4, 220 helps too.
I'd love to have him. |

Sure right now we have SOME.
In two years you have Schenn, G, Couts, and Read all needing new deals. Plus, you will need to give Voracek a raise at some point.
Do you think Nash's 7.8 would not affect these contracts? |

Well, don't forget that some big contracts are coming off the books (i.e. Kimmo, Briere) in the next few years.
Also, JVR's sizable hit would be moved in the Nash deal. In fact, we'd really only being adding an additional 2 million if Bob were involved. |

so just playing with a better linemate will vault him 30-40 points in this era? lol |

So would I but he has a bloated contract for too long and this team doesn't NEED more offense. |

Columbus is terrible, thats a place where careers die. Anyone who can be dominate there should be respected imo. I don't know if Nash is the answer for the Flyers but hes a very talented player who gets zero help. |

Briere's 6.5 is not until the year after. And you have to replace Bob at about 1M so it is JVR 4.25 + Bob's.785= 5.1M vs 7.8= 2.7M. That is a fair difference when you still need to add to your D IMHO.
I'm not saying it is the worst thing that could happen but it is not the best when your team NEEDS to improve the D. |

I agree with this. Nash and Giroux could potentially form one the most dynamic lines in hockey. It would still be hard for me to swallow trading JVR, but if it can get done for Schenn, Bob, and a first I'm doing it in a heart beat. Columbus doesnt have much leverage now in my opinion, and Nash will be going to the highest bidder. I honestly see Nash going to the rags |

We traded Nash to CBJ last off season for Voracek the 8th overall and a 3rd rounder. |
