completely different scenario... that was at trade deadline for a playoff push so their willing to overpay... at the draft i think people are less likely but then again i dunno im not a gm ahaha

You're either undervaluing Gagner or overvaluing draft picks. Gagner is a .6ppg player who was on pace for over 50 points this year... He finished with the best plus/minus on the Oilers, and he has improved in all areas of his game. Gagner was a good pick at #6... He's definitely worth a #20, let alone a second round pick... If we traded him for a #20 or second round pick, I'd fly to Edmonton and take a diarrhea dump on Tambs/Lowes car.

you cant seriously think that hall and eberle are as good as crosby malkin? but on that point are the pens not considering trading staal for exactly that? who is probably a little under the value of eberle and hall but a lot closer comparison than crosby malkin

You've got a point. That being said, if the return for a former top 10 pick who's performed well as an NHL regular is less than a first round pick, Gagner won't be traded. It's just poor asset management (let alone adding 2009 10th overall MPS). So if he gets traded, I see it being for a first round pick.
