Not for a 1 year deal. He's UFA after that. Where's the thinking?
- Pixote Andolini

And you can't assume they'll let you talk extension prior to trading for him or that if you can't get it done and still trade for him anyway that he'll want to stay here.

I would hope if such a deal would be made Holmgren would be allowed to talk to Weber and come to terms on an extension.

If Weber can't commit to that then he can rot somewhere else.

If Shea Weber is obtainable, I'd like to know if the Nashville Predators would have interest in Meszaros and Bob and then only one of JvR or Voracek as parts of the deal (No I'm not saying this is the finalized proposal).

By losing Weber, you're losing a lot obviously but at least a player such as Meszaros has a bomb from the point and is physical. Those are a couple of things that Meszaros can bring back the other way, that Nashville will be missing once Weber is dealt.

At the same time the Preds have just traded their back up and maybe they have interest in Bob.

I look at Eklund's deal and I wonder if the Preds would take JvR (or Voracek), Meszaros, Bobrovsky and 2 first round picks for Weber.

Should more be added?

Part of the stipulation would be flyers get permission to talk to Weber and his agent before any deal is official . . If the flyers can't work out a LTC with Weber, no deal. That how that would work IMO.

I've been starting to really wonder what value Sergei might have.

He is still a young goaltender that has promise, and has played for a team that a lot of the time hasn't helped his development.

He has a big contract and as much as I would secretely love for the kid to become the #1 and lead the team to the cup, I'm starting to picture him more as a jonas gustavsson kind of player.

Whats new dingo?

Same old stuff Peanut.

At the very least I think Bob and our first round pick could definitely move us up in the draft. Big picture though, I'm wondering why the Preds traded Anders Lindback.

I don't do it even then, is Weber going to fix the team wide defensive issues? Nope.
- ob18

Nope to nope. IOW, yep.

Weber is a fix. Is Boston an elite D without Chara? Seidenberg should be on his knees to Chara post game every game.

Weber, Timmo, Mez, Carle (maybe), Coby. Awesome.

I am about keeping the core, but JVR and Voracek for Weber is a bit of a ripoff and will never happen.

I hope I can disagree and not get banned again.

Did we get Weber and Nash yet? Hopefully we dumped all our trash to Columbus and Nashville by now...

Haha such a lame answer.

I dont get what Nashville is doing. I can see taking the risk on Radulov this season but getting the 2nd of the Tits brothers?

Now they trade a solid back-up, who has a promising future for basically two 2nd rounders?

The team desperately needs help up front and I would have used Lindback to help that aspect of their team. Not simply for more picks. Maybe they have something planned at the deadline. If I was a fan of the team, I would hope so.

I'm aware Caron went the other way for Lindback but if Rennie gets hurt and both Suter and Weber exit this summer, Nashville season is over quick.

Even if Weber gets here, you know he's going to be a quick scapegoat, considering everyone will expect him to be Pronger 2.0. The second he lets Crosby or Malkin skate by him for a goal, he'll be thrown to the wolves with Bryz.

And we wonder why athletes don't really like Philly? Pretty soon we'll have no one come here and play for us.

I really wonder, if the efforts for Suter and Weber don't pan out, if the Flyers would turn to Calgary and see if Jay Bouwmeester would be available

What Athlete's don't really like Philly? We have high expectations to pull in big times names every year and every off season and for the most part, we get them. They don't have to come here but in a lot of cases they end up here. Carter and Richards didn't want to leave, they were traded away. Chris Pronger was never a scape goal in the short time he's spent here. I think Weber will be fine here win or lose because he plays that nasty Flyers style of play.

I've been wondering this all season long. I think everyone would be pissed if J-Bo ended up here. To be honest, I think we could do much worse and Bouwmeester just needs a new environment. Lupul couldn't cut it in Edmonton playing in front of his home crowd and yet Lupul was fine once he was shipped out.

Please no. Just stay with what we have. I'll take Gus over JayBo and that crazy cap hit

Not advocating it, just a guy whose name has been in the mill lately. His cap hit is bothersome, but he is a solid defenseman. After Timonen's hit is gone, Bouwmeester's hit would be tolerable.

Again, not saying it's the way to go, just tossing a name out

J-Bo's contract only extends one more year after Timonen's is done. I don't see much risk on taking a chance on Jay Bouwmeester and I really don't see the Flyers having to give up a lot to grab him. Not saying he's what I want but I'm not completely against him either.

Even if he was added and re-signed, can't see his cap hit going up too much. The thing is, he's not really a franchise guy that people seem to want.

I think Jay Bouwmeester could be moving on from Calgary at just the right time next summer and he'll still be at a decent age. Jay Bouwmeester hasn't missed a game since the 03-04 season.

It was the same deal with Pronger. They traded the equivalent of 4 1sts and a 2nd (I believe) for 1 yr of a 35 yr old Pronger without talking to him prior. Holmgren had to give Pronger the biggest contract of his life (as an over 35) that paid him into his 40's because he couldn't afford to let Pronger go after paying that much for him.

And out of that record contract the Flyers got 63 total regular season games and a cap hit until 2017.

Weber is a much better bet than Pronger being a decade younger but it's still dangerous to give up so much to the player and team on both ends of the deal.

I'll pass. The following year UFA available will be Edler and Enstrom. I rather have that cap space when Timonen's deal expires to acquire one of those two players than get JayBo. JayBo=Nash as far as cap hits. He is not worth the price, imo.
