I would be very happy with this if they made a trade for Weber. They could easily sign a few FA players on offense to fill roles and be perfectly fine next year. - Flyers2821
What about the other 3 slots up front? |

Gives them a great opportunity to sign a few veteran guys to complement the youth on offense.
I have a feeling they are gonna sign Wellwood's brother |

Assuming JVR, Jake+ for Weber, I'd still consider signing Carle. I'd sign someone like Kyle Wellwood to round out the forwards. Then in a year when Kimmo and Lilja are gone you could find a cheaper replacement for the D and an upgrade at forward.

I just have a feeling that landing Weber is going to come down to them wanting Couturier over JVR. And I really dont want to let Coots go. JVR, Jake & a 1st would be as far as I could possibly go. If the Preds can do better... then good for them. |

Why? Kyle Wellwood is like Danny Briere. Except he doesn't play much wing. Kyle Wellwood isn't very good defensively and he's less talented offensively then Briere. So basically a down grade to Briere but the same type of player. |

Get Weber and sign a few FA forwards to round out your forwards and let the young d-men in the system fight it out for that last d spot with Lilja

Why not? The numbers work out, though they may have to juggle until they can put Pronger on LTIR at start of the season. They'll lose Kimmo in a year. I think they wouldn't be far off last years goal total with a much better D. |

Because they would have 5 solid d-men and would need to use that money to round out the offense through free agency. Would be foolish.
Add Shane Doan to Giroux's wing for a few years! |

OK, fair point. What does Weber get? What is the max?
There is still 1.5 mil without the bonus cushion (assuming it's there next year). So give Weber 8.5, or front load a long term deal. Whatever works.
Also admittedly assumes Shelley is sent down to minors, which may not be a valid assumption.
Look, Timonen's getting older, Mesz is coming off of major surgery, Grossman and his knees. Lose 1 or 2 of them and then still thin even with Weber. Adding Carle as well is big time insurance for the inevitable. |

Nash > nothing...
I hate to say it, but I'm done waiting for JRV to light it up. He'll have a good career, but nowhere near Nash. JRV may need a change of address.
As for Jagr. I'm afraid that they may have to sign him for political and not to upset the locker room. I read that he's requesting to stay on the top line, and being on the top PP. That's BS, no player should demand that - it needs to be earned. Personally, I think he's done.
Nash is big, he scores, etc... Depending on what it would take to get him - I'd say go for it. Hell, Hartnell is a top goal scorer with Giroux. I'd lke to see what Nash/Giroux could do.
And, for all those who want to give the "kids" more ice time. Replacing Jagr/JRV with Nash would open up more ice time for Schenn, Read, etc... - leon neon
Jagr hasn't earned the right to play in a situation he wants to play in, in choosing where he signs?

To be honest with you, I love JvR. I think it's short site (no offense) to just come and say "Well, we did well without him this season, so therefore we don't need him". Let's say we did have a HEALTHY JvR all season long? In my mind we would have been even better a team. More goals would have been scored. This should mean we would have got more wins. More impact. |

His cap hit would be a fraction of Briere's though, so as a 3rd / 4th line guy (assuming he'd want to play there to be with his bro) he'd be fine. |

You can't count the bonus cushion that only came into play this past year because they had no CBA beyond this season.
I have no idea what Weber will want, that's not for me to speculate.
They've also have a number of chances to move Shelley to the minors and haven't don't count it as something that will happen just yet. |

Actually, I'm fine with that too.
My biggest problem with that lineup is also lack of depth for injuries to forwards. |

I wish the playoffs didn't come and go so quickly because we keep forgetting how great Briere is. The rest of this team just needs to play with the same level of play that Briere does. In my mind nobody on this team deserves a cup more. |

FWIW I wasn't slighting Danny B at all. My point is that you can get Wellwood for less than 1.5m, and that is assuming a 100% raise from this year. |
