I hired a company to fo the following

fertilize
spread a layer of topsoil, fertilizer, seeds

then I seeded the poop out of it for two weeks and waterde like a madman. I'm talking a couple of hours each night (that was during the first heat wave about a month back)

then when it was growing they came to do a first spraying for weeds which killed off a lot of them and the seeds are growing like mad.

I've also adjusted my lawn mower to mow down to about 3.5-4 inches at most depending on whether it's hot or not.

It seems t be working very well so far.

When I moved into my house, the whole backyard was comprised of 4-ft tall weeds. I had to hack them down with hedge clippers, and then mow it down. Still looks like poop though; probably going to take me all summer to make it start to resemble a lawn.
