I think so. Read is 25 so he isn't really a true rookie. Schenn has been around some too. Cooter seems to be a special type of player. I think it may not be a well as last year, however, I think they will be fine. I see Homer adding another scorer just in case. What's up with your defense. You guys are in the same boat with us it seems. - Deasr1
Everyone is calling for Martin to get traded. I just can't see how a line of Martin and Z go from such a shut down pair in 10-11 to what happened last year. I think Bylsma system needs to be tweaked to make the players more responsible in the defensive zone. Instead of balls to wall offensively pull back from that a bit and play some damn defense. Plus less games for Fleury will do wonders.
Indeed. Forwards by 25 and dmen by...Weber's age. Oh well, I'll probably wake up tomorrow and see we got Nash and Jbo and just give up all together. - Deasr1
I'm not a huge Bouwmeester fan, but he wouldn't be an awful addition if the price is right. The guy is solid, plays a ton of minutes and rarely gets hurt. He's not elite, which is what people expected from him.

But you also lose two 22 year old wingers. One is a 6'2 200 lber who has 30-35 goal potential. The other is a speedy guy who could be a consistent 60 point guy.
As for where the 1st rounder is, Claude Giroux was picked at 22. That's a big price to pay for one guy. - Jsaquella
Okay. You can still add two forwards. Plus there is no guarantee that pick 20 will pan out. JvR and Voracek have a lot of potential but that doesn't mean they will hit it. You know what your getting from Weber and thats a franchise defenseman (captain/leader). The Flyers have no chance of winning unless they decide to start playing better defense. Does one player do that? Probably not. However, players will be held accountable with Weber on the roster. Also, not a big fan of JvR defensively and Jake is okay. Have to start building this team from the net out. When the playoffs come around you have to win more 2-1 games than 8-6 games to win the cup. It sucks giving up that much but your probably getting the best defenseman in the game at his prime. Weber will be signed for the next 10 yrs if the Preds decide to trade him here. I still think its a long shot but the Flyers imo have no trouble finding forwards who can play.

There's no guarantee that Weber will pan out in Philly, either. We've seen what one stick to the face can do to the very best laid of plans. Bryzgalov probably got hit in the head somewhere on the flight between Phoenix and Philly, too.

This I know. Where ever Weber plays he will be a dominate force. Every trade has risks. The Flyers may have to make that decision. Stay with what we have or get a franchise defenseman.

6.6 mil for a player similar to Coburn is too rich for my blood...
If we get Weber, we will have a rock. Our young talent pool will be drained some again, but, we always have scoring. Lavy's system is scoring based. We will get goals. Adding Shea won't solve our d problem. Yet, it can make it a little easier on Bryz if he is there. And on Kimmo's minutes. Grossmann's knees. My sanity.

I think if you trade Staal, it will hurt you guys more than most think. He is a rock. That kid does it all. You may get a good return for him, but I think in the long run it will sting more.

I think Biron already resigned? At least I thought he did. I like that d though

I think certain teams got caught with their pants down (VAN, CHI, PIT, PHI) in the playoffs due to the shift from the refs not calling the obstruction penalties. The playoffs were murky and resembled pre lockout hockey. This is so important going forward with the new CBA and maybe a new language to the rule.

I know it's all rumors and conjecture at this point, but I think giving up two top-6 forwards, 2 first round picks, and a young d-man is too much for Webber. Sure, he's great, but he's not worth gutting the team, especially if you are giving away all your top picks at the same time, and crippling your ability to rebuild.
I would go no higher than one of JVR/Voraceck, the two first round picks, and a young d-man (Bourdon). If that isn't enough, then walk away. No way do I give up two of JVR/Voracek/Schenn/Read. We finally have a solid, young nucleus, with a ton of upside. Let's not destroy that for one defenseman, even a great one like Webber.

i want Weber in theory and there isn't much I wouldn't give up for him. Having said that, I am against trading a signifcant number of players for one player. When and if that one player gets hurt, it's just too much of a negative impact. So, I don't want Weber.
edit: looks like I should have waited and then added on to the previous post.

So you want to offer Nashville: JvR, MAB & (2) 1st round picks? Not sure if thats enough but I hear what your saying...Walk away

The only full time player you are losing is Voracek. JVR played 30 games and MAB didn't play much either

I respectfully disagree.
1. Weber is a franchise player and he's young.
2. You have to give to get.
3. You'd still have the other two of those four.

If you notice the last few champs had Gonchar/Letang/Fluery, Keith/Seabrook/Campbell, Chara/Thomas, and Doughty/Quick as foundations for championships. The Flyers have no foundation like those teams to build a championship. The Flyers have a great group of forwards but letting them grow isn't getting the Flyers any closer to a Cup. Also the Flyers don't draft high enough to get franchise players. Trading for Weber, no mattet who goes in the trade puts the Flyers closer to championship.
