If they trade for Weber, they will either not resign Carle, or they would have to trade Meszaros or Coburn. - RooNosHockey
Incorrect. They're already likely to have come to terms with Carle, and if they trade for Weber, the only defenseman mentioned so far is MAB. Not sure how Nashville would jump at Meszaros or Coburn, with their ability to draft and develop defensemen. |

The problem with getting Weber in. A trade this year is that the flyers do not have a whole lot of options to fill in the gaps. Who takes the place of JVR, Vorachek, Bourdon and two 1st rounders?
The flyers do not have a second rounder this year. Really limited defensive prospects, and not really great fills in at wing on the top two lines.
Granted Bourdon is another concussion from having a very questionable future in hockey but he is still a cog in the machinery.
If Kimmo retires after this years there is another dman to fill in. Sure an UFA could fill in that spot but who knows who will be available.
Besides with all the young guys I don't think they are cup ready for another two or three years.
I would rather get a guy just under elite status. An Eric Johnson or Begosian type. I am not saying those guys are available or attainable.
Keep as many guys together on this team as possible yet make additions by adding the right mix. - bird_dog
Once again I'm not trading two top six forwards. Cousins, Jvr, MAB and two 1st rds

Problem is these guys are going to cost almost the same. Might as well throw in a few extra chips and get the best guy. As for filling the holes... you need a mix of vets and youth. if you sign a checking line and cut down your goals against by 20%, then a 15% drop in offensive production is tolerable. |

Listen they trade voracek and JVR they can get true third line wingers. The nhl is full of them and they are cheap. Put max as center on the fourth line. - Philly1980
With Weber having a possible $8mm cap hit? I guess they can just ignore the salary cap?
Losing JvR, Voracek & MAB in the trade doesn't fully clear Weber's cap hit, and now in the summer, when Pronger, Matt Walker and others count against the cap, that leaves little room to sign those third liners. |

I'm not against trading for Weber. I'm trying to get people to realize that making the move for him is not a steal, nor does it fix all the team's issues.
It's bright and shiny syndrome. Then two years from now, if JvR & Voracek reach their potential and the Flyers have Giroux playing with Hartnell's corpse, we can all female dog about that.
I don;t like people acting like the Flyers would be trading 30 lbs of cow poop for a diamond ring. |

Exactly. No worries about the 4th line, because it's now the third line |

I do as well. But trading for Weber is an expensive proposition. I'd probably do it myself, if the cost was JvR, Voracek, MAB and a 1st. But it's not cheap and it's not the only move that would have to be made. |

Obviously Shelley would be signed to an extension for 4th line duties. |

No its not a steal but a fair deal. Obviously you have to give to get. Voracek and JVR are good players and those two firsts sting. I would be happy if it was one and its was next years first. But it is what it is. |

No. You are incorrect BUD. I never said they would trade them to Nashville. I said they would trade them. If they get Weber AND sign Carle they would have too many NHL d-man making too much money. They will likely need Gus or Lilja still for the 6th and 7th d-man. So they will either not sign Carle, or they will trade Coburn or Meszaros... most likely to fill part of the needs that open trading for Weber.

You mean Weber won't prevent Bryzgalov from allowing soft goals? I think he surely will. With Weber the opposition will be held to 3 shots a game, 4 tops. |

#Flyers made qualifying offers to UFAs Voracek ($2.25M ), Bourdon ($709G), Sestito ($605G), Holmstrom ($605G) , Zolnierczyk ($719G). - stveshdy
guess that means Andrew Rowe and Mike Testwuide were not.

If it's next year's first, you'd be trading a 1st rounder in what is considered to be a very good draft class.
People seem to be thinking that simply adding Weber fixes all the problems. It won't. And there's no firm basis that he's even available. |

You know what?! other people are entitled to their opinions as well. No need to make fun of them. No one said making the trade would get you the cup, so stop acting like a virgin whose just seen Richard for the first time. We were simply debating the future implications of this.
Who do you think is more likely to lead you to the cup?
Voracek +JVR or Weber. I for one dont want to be then Next TML hoping that my prospects mature enough to get into the playoffs. I want to be the team that goes for it every year!
My Money is on weber. |

They are already close to re-signing Carle. Also, with the injury problems that Timonen has had, and the surgeries, he's not a guarantee to be ready to start the season.
Even if he is, why move the depth on defense? It's not logical to add Weber and then suddenly move out Meszaros or a guy they just re-signed to an extension. Finally, what good is adding Weber, when you have to play Gus or Lilja on the third pair? Same trouble they had in 2010, when the third pair got torched in the playoffs. |
