You know what?! other people are entitled to their opinions as well. No need to make fun of them. No one said making the trade would get you the cup, so stop acting like a virgin whose just seen Richard for the first time. We were simply debating the future implications of this.
Who do you think is more likely to lead you to the cup?
Voracek +JVR or Weber. I for one dont want to be then Next TML hoping that my prospects mature enough to get into the playoffs. I want to be the team that goes for it every year!
My Money is on weber. - Philly1980
Well, to be honest, if they did wait, it would be the second time in the last twenty years that they decided to let a group of young core players mature together.
It's not as if they have had a rebuild and missed the playoffs for 8 years. They had a 100 point team playing 7 or 8 rookies regularly. Those young players are only likely to get better with another year under their belts.
They're not the Leafs selling Tyler Bozak or Matt Stajan as a future number one center. |

I'm not against trading for Weber. I'm trying to get people to realize that making the move for him is not a steal, nor does it fix all the team's issues.
It's bright and shiny syndrome. Then two years from now, if JvR & Voracek reach their potential and the Flyers have Giroux playing with Hartnell's corpse, we can all female dog about that.
I don;t like people acting like the Flyers would be trading 30 lbs of cow poop for a diamond ring. - Jsaquella
First off If you get Weber to sign a long term contract his cap hit will likely be a lot lower then 8 million. Second off, if we win 2 cups in those 2 years, no-one will care what JVR and Voracek are doing. IMO Weber's impact to the current team will be greater then JVR and Voracek's. It will most likely be more in 2-4 years as well since Weber is still in his prime... |

That's a whole lot of conjecture and IF's, isn't it?
Weber's current cap hit is $7.5mm. Even if he signs a long term deal, he's not likely to carry a cap hit of less than $6mm or so. Because the NHL is going to scrutinize that contract like it's a new species of life found on Mars.
Now, let's get to the 2 Cups in 2 years thing....Shea Weber will help the team defense. He will not cure the problems by himself. Everybody on the team will have to pick up their game, whether they sign Shea Weber or not. He's not a guaranteed Stanley Cup.
If JvR and Voracek are gone, the Flyers will be counting heavily on Wayne Simmonds and Max Talbot repeating career years, Schenn and Couturier making big jumps offensively and Matt Read repeating his rookie season. That's a lot of IF's.
Shea Weber is not a guaranteed Stanley Cup. He's not a magic wand that will suddenly cure the team's problems in playing two hundred feet. He's not going to step in and magically replace Pronger's presence as a locker room leader.
Yes, he is an elite defenseman. He will bring a lot of needed things to the table. But he's not the final piece to the puzzle, unless a lot of young guys repeat their success from last year and even improve in a lot of areas. |

I dunno the flyers always seem to have a nack of finding forwards. If home does do it there is no way he will make a trade that will create more holes. he already knows if he makes that trade what plan A,B,C are to fill the two forward gaps. |

What's entirely more likely is that we just end up with another salary-cap albatross and get to continue watching former picks, prospects and players win Stanley Cups elsewhere.
Hurray! |

Might as well be the way they got their asses handed to them by the rangers all year and in the playoffs by the devils. |

They do, and that would have to continue.
I'd love to have Weber. Not debating that part of it. He'd be ideal. But adding him does open up other holes and doesn't solve all their problems.
It's not just as simple as trading for and signing Weber and then picking out a spot to see the parade on Broad Street |

Easy sport. Never said you couldn't have your own opinion. In fact, I specifically said you could, and likely would. And it seems you do, so that's great. Well done. Gold star for you.
Also, kudos for taking what was a civil discussion and adding in a nice dose of juvenile name calling. Always a crowd pleaser. Really, that whole bit about me being a virgin that has never seen Richard has made me totally rethink my position on this issue, and has it has me totally intimidated. Truly masterful on your part. Well done again sir, you're really on a roll.

Suter
Wideman
Garrison
Rosival
Allen
Gill
Spacek
Salo
Salvador
Suter and Wideman will get overpaid, possibly Garrison too let someone else do that. Gill could provide good value, Im not super familiar with the other guys.

Yeah i know. I would be more certain of that parade if weber was on the team....
Tell me who is more likely to lead you to a cup:
Weber or Voracek +JVR +2 unknown prospects. |

I don't want to see half of this team's future dealt away for anyone. I don't think it's worth it for anyone. Even Weber.
Look Homer. Forget Nash....forget Weber....
Keep the team intact....keep the future intact....just get a Mez-type player for a pick at a 3ish mil hit and MAYBE a 4th liner to help in the D zone and in the faceoff dot.
Please keep our arms and legs.... |

How does Weber coming in get them past the Rangers or Devils? Both the Rangers and Devils thrived on the Flyers mistakes on team defense. A lot of times those mistakes were made by the forwards. How does adding Weber fix that?
