Suter
Wideman
Garrison
Rosival
Allen
Gill
Spacek
Salo
Salvador

Suter and Wideman will get overpaid, possibly Garrison too let someone else do that. Gill could provide good value, Im not super familiar with the other guys.

Not a deep pool of FAs

- aosplayo

Gets shallower every day. Jackman and Brad Stuart signed today.

Lot of over 35 guys. Kuba, Spacek, Salvador....

How does Weber coming in get them past the Rangers or Devils? Both the Rangers and Devils thrived on the Flyers mistakes on team defense. A lot of times those mistakes were made by the forwards. How does adding Weber fix that?
- Jsaquella

He would punish them. Maybe inspire the defense to actually hit someone. I also believe that the problem with team defense is a problem of youth. Need some cheaper two way forwards.

Yeah i know. I would be more certain of that parade if weber was on the team....

Tell me who is more likely to lead you to a cup:

Weber or Voracek +JVR +2 unknown prospects.

I'm not saying he wouldn't help. He would help. Immensely. But he doesn't fix everything.

Danny Briere is the team's worst defensive forward. Scott Hartnell was really up and down. Giroux also had some really obvious blown coverages that led to goals against.

Hell their best defensive player in the playoffs was 19 years old.

I agree, overall that youth was an issue in the team defense problems. But it was not limited to Schenn and Simmonds and Voracek.

I know. Thank you sir. The truth is indeed a harsh mistress.

The only thing that keeps me going is the hope that I may one day get to see as much Richard as you have brad.

How does keeping this current group solve that problem? Adding Weber doesn't guarantee anything other than the defense being upgraded. Flyers will have to adjust either way with or without Weber.

No but neither do the players going to nashville. JVR and voracek dont help out on defense. Could you imagine if Kimmo is out all of next year? What happens when his contract is up ?

As much as i love Danny B, his defense better pick up next year. You can score 50 pts in the playoffs but if you a -60 then that does the team no good.

You know what?! other people are entitled to their opinions as well. No need to make fun of them. No one said making the trade would get you the cup, so stop acting like a virgin whose just seen Richard for the first time. We were simply debating the future implications of this.

Who do you think is more likely to lead you to the cup?

Voracek +JVR or Weber. I for one dont want to be then Next TML hoping that my prospects mature enough to get into the playoffs. I want to be the team that goes for it every year!

My Money is on weber.

I saw you threw that Booumeester question out yesterday. If that cap hit wasn't ungodly Id do it. He is a minutes eater and hasn't missed a game in 4 seasons. Imagine another 23 - 25 min. guy. How much would that help Grossman/Carle. We have some extremely effective defensemen when they don't have to use their rollover minutes.

Any 23 min. D-men without a 6.8 mil cap hit out there? Get on it Homer

With the current group, the young guys will develop and enhance their all around games, while not being under the gun.

Take a look at Simmonds. There was no pressure on him to score 28 goals. He started out as a top 9 guy, who could provide grit and maybe get to twenty. You trade JvR and Voracek, he's being counted on to score 25-30.

Can he do it under the gun?

By standing pat, and making minor tweaks, you can continue to allow the young guys to develop into their roles and not have it be a major problem if they don't or simply are not ready to.

i think by upgrading the defense we wont need those 25-30 goals. Were in the bottom 10 in GA bro....also we had a lot of high scoring games this year. Those numbers are a little bloated. I would also expect more from Danny.

Oh I know. But that wouldnt be horrible, aside from the cap hit of course. He would be effective on this team where he would be part of a solid group of D men

The trouble is, the defensemen were not the primary trouble in terms of goals against. Adding Weber doesn't automatically make the forwards better defensively.

That's the thing. You can add Weber or Chara or whoever. But if the forwards don't play better two way hockey, you're not winning jackpoop

I don't disagree but I would hope that Weber could bring the team that calm, confidence that Pronger did. It was just something about Pronger's presence on the ice (and the power play) that was infectious to the whole team.
