This was proposed in the Leafs thread yesterday, thought it was interesting...
5th overall + Schenn + Reimer (good Manitoba boy) + mid-level prospect (Mueller? or D'Amigo?)
For
9th overall + Kane + Pavelec - As_I_See_It
So
the 5th overall + a top 4 D + backup goaltender + a nobody
For
9th overall pick + soon to be elite owerforward + decent number one goaltender.
Do you see how this doesn't work? |

No, you're ragged on because the fanbase always tries to trade 3 of their B+ prospects(not to mention a garbage contract) for Super Stars, who are often magically and secretly drawn to the Blue & White because they grew up there. - hereticpride

Pay him.....or have fun looking for another starter because there is a small chance your going to find anyone else in the next couple of years. |

I think a more realistic proposal would be:
5th Overall + Schenn + Reimer + Midlevel prospect
For
Kane + Pavalec + 2nd
Winnipeg wouldn't give us the much better players in a deal, just to move up 4 spots in the draft. But if it they're getting our pick, it gives them the 5th and 9th which could definitely be packaged to move up even higher in the draft |

Well how often has this scenario happened? Exactly, so why are you so worried about it? |

That deal is so ridiculous its not even funny.
Kane >>> Schenn
Pavelec >>>>> Reimer
You would need to add mutiple assets to make that work. Like your best prospects and your first. - gagneRoger
- Kane vs. Schenn = Apples and Oranges
- Pavelec is good, but not head and shoulders over Reimer. Pavelec is also useless to the Jets if he bolts for the KHL.
- Moving up four spots into the top 5 is HUGE.
- The Leafs could add an upgrade with a rospect or draft pick.
The proposal is clearly based on the rumors circulating around Kane not wanting to return Winnipeg and the threat of Pavelec leaving FOR NOTHING to the KHL.
Get it? Got it? Good! |

that is interesting.
although i would rather have luongo at 5.3 than pavelec at $4+ as long as it costs next to nothing to get Lu.
If we got Lu, something involving reimer and Kane would be very nice.
not sure I would trade down from 5 to get it done though unless the Cs are gone by then. - jarmstrong
I just put a link by TSN that says Harding wants to stay in Minny. Soon we will be trading Schneider. TO will be in a bidding war for Bernier any day now against Chi,SJ CBJ NJD .I suggest if you want a goalie you stop making these crap offers. |

More realistic, but still very tilted towards Toronto. |

I think the Phaneuf trade didn't help.
He's not a superstar but the leafs did manage to get a good player for ian white and garbage. |

Pavelec is head and shoulders better than Reimer.
Player A: 2.91 gaa, .906 save percentage with virtually no defense in front of him
Player B: 3.10 gaa, .900 save percentage with a better defense in front of him.
Is moving up four spots in this draft huge? We aren't taking about from five to 1. There is virtually no difference from 9 to 5.
Kane is way more of a difference maker than Schenn is or will be, so ... |

is 9th >>>> 5th too?
Kane and pavelec are both big question marks right now. Schenn and Reimer are prairie boys signed to good contracts. sure both the Jets players are better (although i would argue that you shouldnt compare a solid stay at home D with a forward) but there is more than just raw skill to factor in to these trades.
Will the jets simply lose pavelec to the KHL for nothing then have to trade for a goalie anyway?
How long will it take before kane starts getting actively shopped or starts openly asking to be traded. are they even going to be able to resign him?
On paper, this deal may favour the leafs, but there is still alot to be gained by the jets.
All that being said, I wouldn't do this trade if I was burke. maybe if you put franson in (after signing schultz) and another prospect instead of schenn. |

You mean the very same...
..."Soon to be elite power forward" who has had problems outside of hockey in Winnipeg and is rumored to want out of Winnipeg?
..."Decent number one goaltender" who is seriously considering leaving Winnipeg for the KHL, ultimately leaving the Jets with out a goalie and no return assets?

I don't think it's that tilted mainly because that 5th overall is a very valuable piece because it gives them two picks in the top 10. They can turn those picks into good immediate help if they trade them, they can hang on to them and draft two good prospects, or they can ship them together to move up higher in the draft. |

That wouldn't affect his trade value though, because even if Winnipeg was FORCED to move him there would be more than enough suitors to keep his price high. |

Maybe, but what would happen if he openly demanded a trade? How would that impact his trade value? |

I don't think it would at all, because there would be enough interested teams making serious offers to keep his value high. If 29 other teams in the league know he's 100% available, all of those teams would be interested. |

I think somebody needs to ask if the Winnipeg front office has a handle on its operations. They do not want or need this story or the Kane story.
You have to wonder if the team could not be more effective in toning this down. - spatso
This has nothing to do with the Wpg front office- they have been a vault and discreet- this is all coming from elsewhere. |

The first part doesn't reduce his value or change the fact every single team would want a player like Kane on their team.
And the second part, I must say could hurt the Jets dealing him... but not enough to overcompensate the deal that was mentionned. |
