buff has red flags all around him. i question his work ethic and dedication to improve (especially after winning the cup.)
the guy has all world talent and that allows him to play amazing from september to january. once he hits the 40 game mark, his lack of conditioning becomes a factor. his production tails off and mark my words, he'll have injuries in the 2nd half of seasons. this is usually due to lack of fitness.
why did his lack of fitness not affect him in chi? b/c he was used as a 4th line plug/extra D for the season and then given bigger minutes in the playoffs. if you want vintage buff, you have to rest him during the regular season or improve his fitness. the fitness issue has dogged him his entire life. i don't see it changing now. - RealityChecker
Could be. I'd take a chance on him getting set straight here though. Having seen him wreck our team for years, it seems a worthwhile gamble. |

Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but meaning every team has ridiculous fans.
Everyone busts on Leafs fans, but for example Oilers fans have no trouble believing Sam Gagner will get the 8th overall pick, Nucks fans who think they are getting a boatload for Lu.... Habs fans who think Gomez will get them a top 6 forward. Of course not all fans of these teams believe in these statements, but some do.
There are many more intelligent Leaf fans than the idiots, just like all teams.

I'd sooner take 3.75mil in the NHL over 4mil in the KHL...lifestyle and treatment alone is worth WAAAY more than a .25mil IMO.
Then again, If i'm the Jets, I look at my options in net, and know that I am letting a guy go for .25 when the alternatives are very thin....
If Im Winnapeg, I set a ceiling of 4 mil for 3yrs and call it a day. He's a good goalie - not great, but worth the extra amount given the other options (or lack thereof).

He was joking.
I'm not sure about that last part. Are there really more hockey fans that are non-idiots? I'd say pinning an emotional and financial investment on a game over which you have no control and played by millionaires who are largely indifferent to your interests is pretty nonsensical. Being a fan at all may be fun but it is fairly stupid. |

He's Czech, so the KHL is closer to home. I'm fairly certain the lifestyle in Moscow is better than in Winnipeg when you make $4m a year. And as I understand the tax system, he'd be on the 50% plan here, whereas in Russia you can hide it all in your mattress. The money and lifestyle thing favours Russia by a lot.
Now the treatment and level of competition, that's a North American strength. |

Oiler fans are idiots if they think Sam Gagner can net them the eighth overall pick. I have yet to see a Habs fan think Gomez can net them the sixth overall pick in this draft, let alone a sixth rounder. There might be one idiot Habs fan who thinks that's possible. |

Although I'm a Canucks fan, I really like Pavelec. He's a decent goaltender with a bright future. But I gotta say... I'm sick and tired of the KHL poaching players and/or causing NHL teams to pay higher salaries for players that don't deserve it. |

The NHL stole their players first. The European and Russian leagues used to be able to keep all their homegrown talent. The competition between the KHL and NHL (such as it is) is capitalism doing it's finest at work: making more money for the in demand members of the work force. |

9 million over 3 years tops for a 24 year old RFA goalie who has yet to play a NHL playoff game. If that's not good enough then let him bolt to the KHL where he can be a big fish in a small pond. |

This was proposed in the Leafs thread yesterday, thought it was interesting...
5th overall + Schenn + Reimer (good Manitoba boy) + mid-level prospect (Mueller? or D'Amigo?)
For
9th overall + Kane + Pavelec - As_I_See_It
Lol this is so lopsided, its past the point of dumb. Leafs dont need another elite left winger. Wheeler is a big 2nd line RW.
Schenn, Reimer, MacArthur, Frattin for Pavelec and Wheeler.
Jets should also consider Joey Crabb July 1st. Any team looking for depth scoring should (Blackhawks, Preds, Rangers) |
