IF thats what they want then yeah, w/e.. go with the kids...
however one of them might be willing to take the bait closer to september when they realize they arent getting offered a contract elsewhere - Dozzer
So your plan is to go with a goalie that 29 other teams don't think is good enough to be offered an NHL contract? |

this is silly.
reimer doesn't need a mentor for the next decade.
if all you want is a 'mentor' you sign a guy like Biron for a year or two. - Barx
Biron? what, to mentor him on how to be a mediocre goalie? |

they can still play 20-30 games. And to be honest, I dont see either of them being legit starters...just saying to play them again in HOPES that they are, isnt a good idea. - noename09
...and if they suck, what are the consequences?
we land a potential superstar with the 1st or 2nd pick overall.
start fresh in 2013/2014. |

What you have in Riemer and Scrivens is two potentially alright goalies. Alright goalies have anomolistic years where they perform like Johnathan Quick did this year. Anyone who thinks Quick is going to dominate the NHL for a decade and go to the HOF is an idiot.
What you have in Luongo is a guy with pedigree. There are very few pedigree goalies - Miller, Luongo, Kipprussoff, Lunquist.........these guys are consistant year in and year out. At anyone time, there is maybe 4 or 5 of them in the Leauge and they are probably the rarest of all kinds of players.
Bottom line is that anyone capable of making the NHL can go on a Gigure - Quick - Raycroft - Mason - Thomas - Theodore - Halek - kind of run. but find me a guy who is a star for 5 straight years and I will find you a hall of famer.
Luongo is one of the rarest of NHL players and goalies are good almost to 40. The cap hit is cheap and it will be cheap to get him. Its a done deal. |

come on really?
that isn't what 'mentoring' is about.
it's about confidence, professionalism, focus.
a goalie coach teaches the technical game, a mentor shows the intangibles |

you are talking out of both sides of your mouth.
how are you going to 'see what we have in Reimer/Scrivens' if you are putting Luongo between the pipes for the next decade???? - Barx
Lou wont be between the pipes for a decade...anyone with half a lemon is his/her head knows he wont go past 6.
Heck even when he signed the deal, people were saying he wouldn't complete the last 4 years. |

I actually think that Reimer behind a guy like Luongo for a few years would further his career MUCH more than taking over again this year and failing. - noename09
Yepp. People forget that Reimer is only 24 years old and has only played 71 NHL games
On top of that, Ben Scrivens is 25 turning 26 and will be a UFA after two more seasons |

Burke will never be fired. He doesnt even have to make the playoffs next year. He is building a winner slowly and surely. He does not care about saving his job or making the playoffs as an 8th seed (and dont give me that LA crap, they were the best 8th seed in sports history )
The head coach hardly matters. I never understood why fans care so much about the coach, its dumb. Put a bag over his head and you couldnt tell the difference between Carlysle and Eakins. |

my plan is to stick to the plan and stop bringing in vets
live and die with the kids
i'd rather miss the playoffs with youth then lose in the first couple rounds with vets |

You guys gotta give it a rest. Lu to TO is virtually a done deal. Its a good thing too, because he can mentor Riemer, who can be a decent back up for 3-4 seasons, then if he is ready, Lu moves on and Riemer ascends, if not, Luongo can be good till he's 38, just like Tim Thomas. There is no downside to the Leafs getting Luongo - cheap cap hit, cheap to aquire, potentially best goalie in the world, plus you have no idea how good Phaneuf and Schenn and Gardner will be with a defensive coach and a real goalie. - Jimmy_T

Luongo for Komisarek and D'Amigo.
Feel free to pile meaningless crap on either side of the deal to make it balance out - and I don't care which side you pile it on (or both). |

I don't believe for a second Burke will be okay with starting with Reimer and Ben Scrivens. Scrivens was brutal in his short stint with the Leafs last season, he's not ready.
Burke made these comments public to better negotiate a trade... He's bluffing... Pretending he's going to walk away... It's smart really - ejeezy
more or less what I was thinking....I find it hard to believe hes the LEAST bit comfortable rolling with Reimer as the go to guy again. |
