OMG this has to take the cake for the funniest thing posted....at least in the past couple of days.
Luongo would be the only vet they have (or possibly will have) brought in....you need vets on your team if you want to win.
You also need experience, in order to gain playoff experience for the youth...you have to be in the playoffs.
It's not complicated.

i understand the argument ffs

You're little T-Bone buddy is getting crucified for saying that coaches don't matter.

You still want to back that up? Think it over, U_G Lite.

And that's where we differ.

I've always maintained that the Leafs won't get great until they get good first.

When the team is winning, there is no better place to play.

We need to get into the playoffs, produce an upset in the 1st round, and get this town going ape-poop. Pending UFAs will take notice.

I know you are probably too young to remember this, but the Leafs used to make the playoffs every once in a while. And it was a lot of fun.

- Atomic Wedgie

I have the same mindset....need to walk before you can run. We cant keep losing to get a better team then suddenly shift gears and take off. LA kept trying to remain competitive, kept their picks and youth, kept making tweeks and eventually made their way into the playoffs. Once there they made last minute tweeks to get it done.

They have actually taken a similar path to us, albeit getting better players, were not too far behind, if we keep on pace.

Last 8 years of regular season finishes for LA.

Exactly and I'll say it again: if Tampa's thinking Lindback can be a #1, and of course Pavelec is trying to get paid like one, then why can't Reimer? Guy played great up until he got smoked by Elbows McGee in that Habs game... just look at Miller's stats post-concussion to see what I mean. Why get locked up into a long-term deal with Roberto "not good enough for Vancouver" Luongo? Why take on their baggage?
- gravyface

this is what I say....so much baggage will be off the slate after next season.
the leafs will be a prime postition to take runs at some solid ufa's like clowe, getzlaf and perry, hartnell, etc........

sure we can.
once lombardi, connolly, komisarek(almost) and armstrong are off the books it's a fresh slate.
if Luongo is the goalie, I'm fine with that. If not, I am fine with that as well.
what I'm saying is that it isn't the end of the universe if we don't have a vezina-type goalie at this stage.

- Barx

I fully agree...its not GET LUONGO OR ELSE with me, I jsut want a capable FREAKN goalie this year and not more, maybes.

fans like him are why young players wouldnt want to play here and cant handle the pressure.. one season everyone thinks hes a God, the next he gets a concussion and everyone thinks he is no longer a #1.. do me a favour and go check Quicks stats when he was starting and compare them to Reimers.. and why is Quick a #1 now? LA gave him every chance he needed to succeed

personally i think we would still get destroyed whether we had a #1 goalie or not.. did you see how the playoffs were played? every single game was a tight fore-checking game and we are horrible at that, based on what i saw last season.. connolly, kessel, macarthur etc cant forecheck and keep the puck deep.. we would get destroyed IMO with or without Luongo
- peddy-93

either way, this team could use the experience so we know what we DO need, and who we HAVE that CAN work in the playoffs...look at J Staal, anyone think he would be as big of beast as he was!?

We could be a great forchecking team actually. First, bring up Zigomanis from the Marlies and let him center the 4th line between Steckel and Leo Komarov who I think will blast out of camp with a job. Too bad for Brown, but Ziggy is a great faceoff guy, helps eliviate the load on Stecks and he's a tremendous team guy. Leo is like Brown but on roids from what I hear. So that's 4th line solved. the other 3 lines, there is plenty of players that can do the forchecking, Frattin, Kuli, Connolly, Grabovski, Macarthur, Ashton (if he makes the orster). They are not the best but Carlyle's system should bring the best out of them. You won't recognize half of these players next year.

I seriously hope that the Leafs pass on Grigorenko. I don't want him anywhere near the Northeast division, as a Habs fan. About 6 months ago, everybody was saying Nail or Mikhail, and the latter was being compared to Malkin. At the age of 25, Malkin already has a Stanley Cup, Conn Smyth and 2 Art Ross Trophies. Tonight he probably gets the Hart.

Its amazing how far some people are predicting him to slip after one bad 2nd half, in which he had an injured ankle and the mono. Sure, he can be a bust. So can Yakupov, so can Forsberg, so was Daigle and Stefan. That's the beauty of the draft, they are all "prospects".

Grigorenko goes Top 10, possibly Top 5. If not, Washington will make 10 GMs look like idiots in less than 2 years.

- HabsRUs

As a leafs fan i hope they do take grigorenko at number 5 if hes still available and yaks and galchenyuk are gone as well. If you can play hockey and put up that many points with mono your a champ. i hope burkes not an idiot and selects a defenseman
