Gaunce reminds me of Ryan O'Reilly

Faksa reminds me a breed between Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, without the crack

- Brian Huddle

either way works for me... how realistic is it for galy to drop down?

There's a few nuggets later on in the first. Next year, I'm hoping one of Armstrong/Lombardi/Bozak/Connolly have a "contract year" performance and garner us a 2nd rounder or two. If Gaustad can fetch a first...
- gravyface

Armstrong will have a breakout year, be resigned and go down as one of the greatest Leafs to hoist the cup in a few years.

I couldnt make that kinda stuff up.

This is the first I have heard of Grigorenko being 20 years old. For the purposes of junior hockey he is an over ager. It makes him more than three years older than Teravainen.

It would also explain the fading of his performance. The younger kids always come on stronger in the second half of the season.

Let me be clear. It would be irresponsible to draft an overager with a #5 pick.

I understand it is only a rumor. But, it must be cleared up. He is not a first round pick if he is 20 years of age.

to hell with 'the safe pick'....I want the high risk/high reward.
we don't need a potential third liner or a steady 30 point getter.....we need a game breaker.
i am one of the few who is just fine with grigorenko.

Well you proved me wrong B-Hud! You didn't pick Galyenchuk!

While I'm certain you did it just so I wouldn't be right (it's ok you don't have to admit it in public ) I'm having trouble believing Burke will draft Grigorenko.

This being said, Grigorenko is a tremendous talent and Leafs fans should be happy if they get him.

I heard a rumor Yakupov likes to beat up disabled, colour-blind midgets in his spare time. Should teams be worried his focus is in the wrong place?

He'll be gone by 3, IMO.

It's been a rumor as far back as 2009. I was told about it early on in the year, and laughed it off. Had a couple players say they thought he was older too, and then some scouts say similar.

But it would be really hard to do all of this, and nearly as hard to prove. It's one of those things, where I bet we never now, unfortunately.

But I agree with you. If he is 20 years old, or 21, he's barely a 1st rounder.

I am starting to hate this draft... Picking 5th is the worst spot ...
- senstroll

I think picking anywhere from 6 on down would be worse don't you think?

nah, that's a pretty select group, and with all the travel, he's not likely to come across them very often.

I didn't think so until Burke was actually quoted as saying "we love Grigorenko". I was like... really? He hasn't drafted a Russian since he was in Vancouver. So we'll see.

Dave Morrison (Leafs Head Scout) also hates the QMJHL and tends to be more of a:
1. OHL
2. USNTDP
3. WHL

as far as his preferences, with a couple Swedes thrown in for good measure later on.

And when we trade for Lu we'll extend him another 10 years. Howe who?

I'm of the belief that trading down might not be the worst idea for Toronto, but that's just me.

For the leafs its probably the worst position at the moment... will miss out on the best and probably have to take a risky pick or trade down.

i think you understand what I meant though, if we had #2 or #3, its pretty simple...we take the player we want.

Maybe. He also didn't acquire them. I think people have the wrong idea when some teams tend to drop Russians or steer clear of them. It has more to do with the KHL leverage than the player itself.

The KHL has started to tell players if they want to be part of Sochi and the Olympics than they have to stay. It's become increasingly harder to actually bring them over, and keep them over here on your own terms. They have the threat of big money overseas, when as an RFA or something you'd like to keep their price down just a tad. And in this day and age, teams have to be able to get players cheap on the roster to actually win.

It's a hard line to walk. I don't envy GMs with this stuff, lol.

I think Mon is either Forsberg or Gally. One or the other.

If he drops past them, he's Toronto's for the taking. But I don't see it yet. Galchenyuk wreaks of Trevor Timmins.

personally i see gaunce as a guy who could be like jason arnott.. big body with decent hands who, if he develops correctly, could be a stable 50 ish points centre

i just think he has what the leafs are missing in the system.... size down the middle
