personally i see gaunce as a guy who could be like jason arnott.. big body with decent hands who, if he develops correctly, could be a stable 50 ish points centre
i just think he has what the leafs are missing in the system.... size down the middle - Dozzer
they have a 6'5 Center in the system... We dont have a #1 center... we need one of those

There's a few nuggets later on in the first. Next year, I'm hoping one of Armstrong/Lombardi/Bozak/Connolly have a "contract year" performance and garner us a 2nd rounder or two. If Gaustad can fetch a first... - gravyface
oh if one or two of those guys have a good year and we can sell them off at the deadline that would be sweet
problem is.. if the post season is the goal.. and the leafs are in the thick of it.. guys having good years wont get moved
to hell with 'the safe pick'....I want the high risk/high reward.
we don't need a potential third liner or a steady 30 point getter.....we need a game breaker.
i am one of the few who is just fine with grigorenko. - Barx

Agreed. Hence the Ryan O'Reilly comparison.
Not the biggest guy, but plays like he's 6'3 and shuts down the opposition. I love that guy.
This is the first I have heard of Grigorenko being 20 years old. For the purposes of junior hockey he is an over ager. It makes him more than three years older than Teravainen.
It would also explain the fading of his performance. The younger kids always come on stronger in the second half of the season.
Let me be clear. It would be irresponsible to draft an overager with a #5 pick.
I understand it is only a rumor. But, it must be cleared up. He is not a first round pick if he is 20 years of age. - spatso
There is no proof hes 20. Mere speculation. - noename09
The point is... I would hope that if a team were to select him, they used some money to try digging up any info they could before selecting him. If he's 18, AWESOME. I'd love him at 5. But I'd also want to do my due diligence and poke around.

problem is, Burke keeps bringing in guys like Steckel/Colborne...guys with "size" not "grit"
Maybe. He also didn't acquire them. I think people have the wrong idea when some teams tend to drop Russians or steer clear of them. It has more to do with the KHL leverage than the player itself.
The KHL has started to tell players if they want to be part of Sochi and the Olympics than they have to stay. It's become increasingly harder to actually bring them over, and keep them over here on your own terms. They have the threat of big money overseas, when as an RFA or something you'd like to keep their price down just a tad. And in this day and age, teams have to be able to get players cheap on the roster to actually win.
It's a hard line to walk. I don't envy GMs with this stuff, lol. - Brian Huddle
though I have no doubts this is happening, I find it a pretty big bluff on their part. No way does Russia ice anything but the best team possible on home soil. It's quite possible Galy would be their #2 center, with Datsyuk playing more of a checking role (he's getting older).
Just my opinion, but I generally feel more comfortable with the guys who've taken the step of playing in the CHL. Shows on some level they want to play NA game, and play in the NHL.
