Well said. Might take a few years but its on they way.

Yep. Murray, after getting his ass handed to him by Burke and the Ducks, said that the Sens would never ever be pushed around again. He made it a priority to draft size, grit and character.

it's just now showing up 5 years later with guys like Smith, Cowen, etc.

though I have no doubts this is happening, I find it a pretty big bluff on their part. No way does Russia ice anything but the best team possible on home soil. It's quite possible Galy would be their #2 center, with Datsyuk playing more of a checking role (he's getting older).

Just my opinion, but I generally feel more comfortable with the guys who've taken the step of playing in the CHL. Shows on some level they want to play NA game, and play in the NHL.

Oh they'll bring guys over like Ovie and Malkin... but the Kuznetsovs of the world, who are very high end players, but would fill out the roster as secondary pieces are staying over there because of it.

The point is... I would hope that if a team were to select him, they used some money to try digging up any info they could before selecting him. If he's 18, AWESOME. I'd love him at 5. But I'd also want to do my due diligence and poke around.

MLSE has the money. They better well use it.

Oh, they BETTER damn well do some digging around!

Meh they still have a ways to go. Sens are still a pretty soft team IMO. Both teams need size and grit in their top 6.

Up front they are, but they did a good job with bulking up down low with a couple guys. You notice he's still adding grit with guys like Ziba and Noesen for up front.

Point of it is... it takes a while. Burke started this in the 2009 draft. It's been 3 years. We should just be seeing a couple starting to hit the team. Ross over the next year or two, Biggs over the next couple years, Kenny Ryan, etc.

Ross is already my favorite player

I just imagine him jumping into the benches and beating the poop out of someone.

Like this

- jbold

both for the guy that jumped in and the guy the chased the player into the bench... what a wussy

Nope. He doesnt speak french.

They'll take Gaunce and sell him as Gauche to play on the left side.

Ziba has talent, not much grit. Grit is one thing but you need talent to match. Armstrong has grit and so does komi. Still useless.

Ziba isn't much of a mean guy, but he's strong and uses that strength well. Goes to dirty areas and fights for pucks and stuff. I'd say he'll add a good dimension to a Top Six.

And I'm of the belief Armstrong is just dumb luck. He's a good hockey player who's just... unlucky as poop in Toronto. He played 70+ games a year almost every year until he got to Toronto, and was one of the better 3rd line pests in the game.

The curse of Ballard, I tell ya...

He's okay, but again you need the grit in your top six to be a good team in this league. See Brown, Lucic, Richards, getzlaf etc

In my opinion its why Toronto and Montreal suck balls

He'll be gone by 3, IMO.

It's been a rumor as far back as 2009. I was told about it early on in the year, and laughed it off. Had a couple players say they thought he was older too, and then some scouts say similar.

But it would be really hard to do all of this, and nearly as hard to prove. It's one of those things, where I bet we never now, unfortunately.
But I agree with you. If he is 20 years old, or 21, he's barely a 1st rounder.

The only way to tell his age for sure is to cut off his leg and count the rings.

Frattin, Ashton, Kulemin, Kadri all still need to develop and have shown grit in their games at times. Kadri not as much, but he plays a little gritty, more irratable than gritty, but still

A little loose on the history. Murray, of course, was the primary architect of the Ducks. His decision to move in the direction if size and grit is consistent with his own pattern.

So, how do you explain the decision to move up and pick the little guy Karlsson? Pierre Dorion.

oh he's a mean little bastard in the AHL - running guys all the time. He threw a couple nasty hits with the Leafs as well. As he matures physically we'll see more of that.
