Seriously people, STOP saying you want Galy with the 5th pick. He WILL be long gone by then!!! Grigs was the concensus #2 just months ago, and suffered with mono, and injuries. If he's there at #5, its a no brainer. Besides, none of us know who the hell will turn out in 4 years.

Dozzer! I'm trying to impress internet strangers via lying! You're ruining there online respect for me!

Edit: And I'll have you know that ban was for being distractingly handsom, the hockeybuzzers couldn't concentrate on the rumours.

You won my respect for being Jay Onrait....if you tell me you are not actually Onrait...thats where I draw the line between our "internet" relationship.

your one and only ban was october 22nd 2010

I think I've only had two bans, both of them for crossing Julie.

And that doesn't include the time I wasn't banned, but Julie complained about me to her mother.

No, seriously, she complained about me to her mother.

WHY LUONGO IS THE ANSWER
Let’s start with basics. What do we want as fans? At least we want to win games. Favorably we want to make yearly playoff appearances and ideally we want cups. What does ownership want? Basically: money. So with that in mind, I will explain how Luongo is a win-win situation:

1.We could all agree he’s a proven elite goaltender and making the playoffs is almost a guarantee with him in net. (Early exit will be discussed in a moment). Having said that, playoff brings money to ownership and fans get to see their team in spring. Win-win so far right? Think about this tiny side note for a bit Leafs fans: Don’t you miss sharing a pitcher of beer, eating your favorite junk food with your friends at a bar cheering for your own team for a change instead of bouncing back and forth on band wagons? (Oh I am cheering for Philly now because Claude is lightening it up…Oh I am cheering for Jersey now because they’re the underdog…Oh I am cheering for LA now because they are the least team I hate to win the cup, etc). Fukc all that noise, the buzz in TO will be GRAND if they start making playoffs, remember how crazy it was on the streets when Canada won gold in the Olympics? Imagine that every day in the spring?

2.Luongo’s contract is not bad after all for 2 simple reasons: First, considering TO deep pockets, this is not a bad investment for a guy who practically guarantees a playoff spot every year and worst case scenario, there is multiple options for a team like the Leafs to get rid of that contract if all fails. Second, long term you say? Why not look at the flip side; wouldn’t you rather not have to deal with a goalie which may very well be so hot hitting UFA status in short run? Or being in position to accept offer sheets that would drive up his price? So the good side of a long team when it comes to the talent we’re talking about, you have him locked in and you don’t have to worry about goaltending for few years.

3.When the day comes and either Reimer or Scrivens show greatness and fight for the starter job, it is a wonderful commodity to have. Vancouver is so lucky to have such a problem. 2 great goalies and we don’t know who to keep you say? That’s a more than welcome problem I can’t wait to have since TO have not t had a decent goalie since forever. Let that day come and we probably drive Scrivens or Reimers price to the roof like Schneider and get good returns for him to address other areas and keep Lu for a little longer. He could end his career like Brodeur with TO and still can be top notch goalie at 40. If not, he could be a mentor to Scrivens and a back up after few years. I said Scrivens, because I don’t believe Reimer is the better goalie of the two. Everyone in the league figured him out. His glove side is weak and he gets caught doing the chicken wing all the time leaving a gaping hole a school bus can fit through. I liked Scrivens from the day he was being interviewed and he said quote: “If you are not cheating, you are not even trying”. That’s the winning attitude I am talking about. He’s the kind of guy who’d hit you in the shin with the stick when trying to do a wrap around, or poke you in the back with it if you crash his crease. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep the puck off the net. He deserves to reward for the trophy of best AHL goalie last year and a deep run for the Calder cup. That rubs off on the youngsters in the Marlies aka (we reward success). Having said that, I’d send reamer down next year and give Scrivens a shot backing up Lu. If Reimer improves, trade him when his stock is high cause trading him now is short selling him.

4.Media pressure hmmm? Let me tell you something here. In TO we have been celebrating mediocrity for decades. Even someone above average we tend to praise him like king, let alone an elite goalie who will definitely will steal many games for you and shine with a weaker defense in front of him. TO’s media will not crucify Lu at all, he will become a GOD here. I understand TO and Van media are all over athletes, but the two are so different. Vancouver media ran Lu out of town because he set the bar way too high for himself and that became the standard for them. He wasn’t not allowed to be less than flawless since then. In TO we made Reimer a legend after few good games the year before he was concussed. Luongo will be cherished by TO media and that’s what any player would thrive on. Look at Gardiner for instance, media praised him so much, coaches played him so much, we all had confidence in him and showed it by action and he delivered. He was shy to shoot at first and when he was told YES YOU COULD DO IT!, guess what? he scored few amazing goals and we expect more to come.

5.(Early playoff exits) Ok Luongo gets us there but we have to do the rest and here is how. Don’t expect a miracle the 1st year you make the playoffs but here is what’s going to happen then. A lot of dead weight contracts will be over by then if they didn’t get traded beforehand. UFAs will start considering TO a hot destination when you start making playoffs and also having someone like Lu in net, so TO will attract more fish than ever before. Players have been avoiding to play for TO like the plague would now look at it as a good option. Comes 2nd year making the playoffs we are finally in retooling/tweaking mode and getting those final pieces to contend for the cup. As well as by 2 year, all your promising prospects (2012 5th Pick, Ashton, Kadri, Biggs, Ross, Holtzer, Colborne, etc) are seasoned and will be delivering at NHL level. 3rd year with Luongo, we have established a team that could win the cup.

Sorry, but I for one don’t give a Clutterbuck fukc about truculence and staying the course or any of Burke’s redundant rhetoric anymore. WE NEED RESULT NOW whilst rebuilding in parallel. Luongo could change the mediocrity in this city and turn our luck around. And on a final thought, Canucks fans would poop bricks if we ever win a cup with Lu in net, I’d trade for him just for that thought.
Go ahead poke holes in my theory, flame me all you want, but deep down you know he is the corner stone to years of success.
